If KP moves into Einstein I can’t see them moving OTES out, that’s just trading one part of Kensington for another.

+1. Flora Singer and Woodlin are easier to rezone since their students are all bus riders already.

What do you base this on?

That actually makes sense. No one from Singer or Woodlin is a walker to Einstein. Sligo Middle school would have to go to Woodward too.

Not necessarily. Especially because the eastern parts of Singer/Sligo are walkable to Northwood.

The more this thread goes on, the more challenging this boundary study sounds. Maybe this is why WJ principal is retiring?!?

Maybe but don't care. What I do care about is improving diversity across all schools. That should be the number 1 priority since it's what our board agreed upon.

🙄 Will some schools become more diverse (namely WJ), and will Woodward be a relatively diverse school, yes. Are kids going to get bussed from the DCC to Whitman, no.

Would you rather they drove?

DP. They will only move kids to/from adjacent schools. Whitman is adjacent to BCC and WJ (and Churchill which is out of scope).

I think this would be an awesome way to get to school!

Honestly, I think if they don't rezone any ESs with walkers to the currently assigned HS, this boundary study is really going to shortchange the DCC. It's absurd to send Flora Singer to Woodward. I think it's more likely they'd shift OTES or Highland to Wheaton and then send a couple of Wheaton feeders to Woodward.

Where have they said that?

Yes, even Cabin John MS has had split articulation for years. I think the point was more focused on the sense of community. Following a path from ES to HS with a cohort creates more of a community feel.

With the busy roads, I did not realize Rock View was so walkable to Einstein. Flora Singer is about 70% Farms and Woodlin 39. Woodlin parents may have a lot to say since they have been dealing with that Grosvenor Center commute for a while.

My guess is that (in addition to the switch at WJ/Woodward) they will move some.BCC kids to Whitman, and some Einstein to BCC.

I'm seeing Flora Singer FARMS rates at 40%? But maybe this is old info. 70 seems high though.

40% is correct. Singer has never had anywhere close to a 70% FARMS rate.

Yes, there have been split articulations happening for years in schools all around the county. In one of the recent boundary studies, MCPS said their goal was now to avoid three-way splits.

A small proportion of OTES kids are walkable to Einstein, however much that matters. Highland or Singer to Wheaton makes more sense than OTES - because you're right, Singer to Woodward makes zero sense. So does Woodlin to Woodward - it's already the lowest FARMS elementary zoned for Einstein.

There's clearly no one "right" way to make these changes. Some people are going to be upset no matter what. We're an OTES/NMMS family and I wouldn't be thrilled if we're rezoned to Woodward. Not up to me.

They should create a new consortium for these schools and just "randomly" assign kids to get the best mix.

I think that's the most important point.

Our HS home school rule is 2 miles, across some dangerous roads so many of us drive our kids. Why should they get busing to pick a different school from their home school when we can't get busing to our home school.
