It's going to be ok.

36,403 cases (0-9)

310 hospitalizations (0-9)

2 deaths (0-9)

Thus, death rate for ages 0-9 was 0.005%. Or roughly 1 in 18,000

ok but assuming these numbers are correct..that means hospitalization rate was .9%. That is almost 1 out of every hundred ending up in the hospital.

1 in 100 people with bronchitis, RSV, flu, chicken pox, all kinds of things probably end up in the hospital.

ok - link to that stats please that 1 in 100 kids with chicken pox end up in the hospital. That is very concerning. In many states - kids do not attend school without required vaccinations... chickenpox is highly contagious.

Yes please - what is the source of this information?

Don't play coy you two. It's 1 sentence. Read again. R-E-A-D.

Which of you also doesn't understand .9% is roughly 1 in 100.

I get that. That is basic math. some poster is claiming that the hospitalization rates for young covid patients is identical to that for young chickenpox patients. I just would like to see those stats.

No, you cannot read. LEARN TO READ

I can read.

I personally think it's not comparable because there is a vaccine for chicken pox, but have you tried googling?

Daughter-in-law teaches in a Title 1 school in Kentucky. Very much a pro-Trump covid is fake or overblown area. First week of classes is done. Infections are rampant. Several kids in the hospital now. There is a conference call set for this afternoon. Speculation is the district will shut down and go remote.

Well, this ain't Kentucky.

Seeing this argument play out here is helping me firm up my sense that our kid is not going to in-person school until he gets vaccinated. Thanks, all.

Back to numbers. .

Virginia pediatric deaths:

COVID 2020-2021 - 2 ages 0-9, 7 ages 10-19 (9 total)

Flu 2017-2018 season - 6.

Since no White kid of normal weight and without comorbidities have died, it is hard to think that people will take it seriously.

And? What is your point? Are you trying to argue something about covid? that it is more dangerous than flu? less dangerous? Give us apples to apples per capita stats and make your point.

There would be no reason to hospitalize kids over 12 if people in Kentucky were not idiots.

the infection will go through vulnerable populations. it does not care if the vulnerable people are pro-trump or anti-trump or don't know who trump is.....it does not care if they are in kentucky or virginia or maryland or DC.

Your statement very grossly implies that "people" means white people. Neglecting Black and other POC from consideration as people is a serious problem in our discourse.

That's exactly the reason I started this thread. My kids did well in remote learning last year, and I keep leaning more and more towards pulling them for virtual school. I wish DCPS would run it, since I feel strongly about public schools. I'm also concerned about people in my same situation that can't afford to do a private online school.

oh ffs. if you “feel strongly about public school” don’t try to ruin it. you’re the worst.

So original covid with enormous mitigation strategies is more deadly than flu without? That’s a pretty strong argument against exposing kids to delta without mitigation.
