APS - getting nervous

(No idea if such a law actually exists; others have suggested it does).

Fear porn, scare mongering. Is that you again, supposed ventilation expert/actual stationery saleswoman?

The science has been clear since last year that healthy kids are at less risk with COVID than the fl. We have 3 vaccines out for adults. Schools operated safely throughout the US and world all last year. They're not closing this year (and that law is SB1303).

The same people peddling this crap here are the same Arlington people who were doing it last year. History and science has proven them dead wrong, and the damage they did to our kids is unbelievable. IF YOU'RE SCARED OF RISKS LESS THAN THE FLU, THEN KEEP YOUR OWN KIDS HOME.

The PP’s ignorant fearmongering sounds more like the RWNJs stirring up trouble.

Please stop with the anger. If you disagree, fine.

You're making predictions involving a law that you don't even know if it exists (let alone the language of)? And then you think a government can modify a law very quickly? Do you feel that people are taking your prediction seriously?

People can take it however they want. I assume that planning allows for considering new CDC guidance. If Fauci is right about numbers, it’s gonna be a whole new ballgame.

Sure in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida and Texas, but not in Arlington va where 70% of adults are vax.

All of the ventilation folks predicted huge outbreaks in APS last spring when it reopened in hybrid. I'm not aware of any major spikes or spread. Nor did that prove to be the case in private schools or schools in other places that stayed open all last year, especially if there was a mask requirement.

The ventilation folks are starting again with dire predictions. I don't believe it. Let's keep masks, have lunch outside, wash hands, and carry on. If they want to stay remote, then power to them. But my kids really need to be back in school.

APS is pretty keeping tight-lipped about what next year will look like. I expect this thread to explode on Aug 11 shortly after the town hall.

The communication to elementary staff, as recently as summer school was "regular school year, with masks"

It's literally not that complicated so I'm not sure what people are waiting for. It's going to be 5-days with masks, and they'll have some rules about what exposure/quarantine looks like. It's the same in every single district locally. End of story.

It wasn't more complicated than that last year either--and look how things unfolded. The irony is that Delta has nearly put us exactly back where we were last year--with the exception of reducing mortality and severe illness for vaccinated individuals. But, vaccinated individuals can still get COVID and we all know elementary is totally unvaxxed. So, we have not moved the needle all that far for elementary kids from where we were last year, and yet we lost a whole year basically for them. It's hard not to fear the same repeated insanity this year. I think a lot of families have a degree of PTSD from the past year and are growing increasingly anxious.

Great thing is --> COVID is less harmful than the flu to healthy ES kids. Riding in a car is more dangerous. Nothing has changed with delta. There are 2 statewide virtual academies for you if you don't like risk calibers that are similar to everyday life.

Kids can't wait to be back in school, where the science says it's the healthiest for them (not just with COVID, but with all other aspects of health too).

It's not that complicated, but antimaskers/vaxxers will make their voice known anonymously on DCUM, and we won't hear the end of it on AEM and SB meetings.

Once the under 12s are fully vaxxed, I think a new normal can be found.

If you refuse to mask or vaxx, you are welcome to stay home too so that the rest of us who did everything right can go back to normal.

Ok but is APS actually going to have lunch outside?

Did they say anything to staff about lunch?

I think I can feel okish about school with masks but not if my kid has to eat lunch in the cafeteria.

Regular lunch, though some schools may do outdoor if they have the space/staff for it. I’m guessing most don’t based on what I have seen and heard.

Having an effective vaccine for adults is a HUGE difference. Last year's conversation was about protecting the adults in the building, not the kids. Fortunately, we also have a law that says they have to open this year so opening is pretty much a sure thing.
