APS - getting nervous

Anonymous
There’s no way we’ll be virtual again. I think it’s clear this county (this country, really) can’t handle it, and everyone’s willing to take the risk.

I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m expecting my family and I will all get sick at some point. Most worried for my eleven year old.

I fear Duran and the SB are so risk-averse, they will look for loopholes to revert to DL. It solves so many of their problems. And makes their silly expensive DL program seem important.. My family has zero faith in APS at this point. My 8th grader took an algebra booster course over this summer with kids from other areas and is clearly so far behind

I intend to lobby hard to revoke that reckless law.

Keep your own kid home and leave the rest of us alone. Also, get your anxiety meds checked. I think you need more or a different one.

Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of masking the rest of the day? I’m talking elementary school level here where kids aren’t vaccine eligible.

Not every school has the space or the will to do outdoor lunch. Lobby your principal if you aren’t happy with the arrangements. Eating in classrooms in elementary makes more sense to me than trying to require lunch for all outdoors if you are trying to make a change.

Arranging enough coverage for lunch outdoors or in the classroom can be difficult.

Yes, nervousness about this seems warranted, especially since we’re talking about what seems to be one of the country’s most risk averse counties.

In Maryland, a nine-year-old just died of CoVID. I’m a teacher. Let’s not pretend it’s without risk, and please don’t give that nonsense about them being uneducated, because that won’t kill ‘em.

I added I’m a teacher, and meant to take it out. I’m going in. I’m not saying anything publicly. I can’t take the backlash. But I’m worried for my own kids, and it’s legitimate.

You seem really sure about something that you can’t possibly be certain about. Not a sign of genius. I’m not sure. No one can be.

Pediatric Covid deaths are on par with pediatric flu deaths.

If you're still not comfortable teaching, then I think it's time for a new job. Life is not Zero Risk with anything. If you're looking for that, you'll need a work from home job that does not involve commuting. Teaching is an in person job.

I wish they would re-open the ability to sign up for virtual -- there are so many people who don't feel comfortable with delta and the situation as it is, and they are going to ruin it for the rest of us.

I’m going in, and I have been. I am not one to make waves, but I think it’s fair to say I have concerns. I’m a secondary teacher with almost 150 students. I’d bet money that you don’t have that many contacts over a two day period!

You all will win. Relax.
