Question on travel tryouts for Vienna

Are you talking about the girls Phoenix (Red) teams or the NCSL (Black and below) teams? Actually it doesn’t matter. The girls side is imploding under Michel Vanderhart and Kevin James. Michel is not a kind person. He has his favorites and only coaches them. Everyone else he ignores. He told his 06 Phoenix girls who were trying out for HS soccer they should only play if they make varsity. That playing JV is a waste of time, much like playing for the 06G Black team. Then when his team tied their game this past weekend he told all his JV players they could not go to their JV practices bc it was making them worse. And they can not miss even one Red practice. Girls are literally fleeing Vienna bc of him. Don’t know much about the boys side, but the girls side is a disaster.

I hate to say this but he is right about HS.
Coaching in HS is horrible and they mostly play long ball and run.
My local HS coaches wouldn't know a good soccer player if they saw him/ her. Though, that is a separate conversation.

Playing HS sports is about so much more than the sport they are playing. It’s about pride in your school. Building bonds with your school mates. And I tend to disagree with you about HS Coaching. They hire quality coaches IMHO.

There was a recent coaching change on the 2006 Black Team. One parent clearly doesn’t like it and has decided to be vindictive and attack people personally on an anonymous message board.

I don’t think that’s the right way to handle anything. Good luck to the previous coach and to the new coach, and most importantly to the kids and families. That team is going to be fine as will Vienna’s other teams. This individual will clearly be with another club next year and that’s fine. Good luck to them too.

It is obvious. They changed the coach to piss off and trigger that one parent.

I only have experience with VYS Phoenix and I have no problem calling out Coach Michel. Belittling players on the regular and making kids want to quit a sport they used to love deserves being called out.

Coach Michele is a great coach! He’s not mean by any definition but he’s a straight talker. That goes a long way in my book. If you don’t like what he’s telling his team do what you want, but don’t come on here and bash him!
