| They are the next PDA with two teams in ECNL in near future. |
It’s a TSJ branding deal. TSJ owns FCV and could care less about the club and only in how it supports TSJ’s brand vision to create a DC metro sports academy a la IMG. TSJ currently happy with FCV but sees the writing on the wall and not being aligned with ECNL is now a problem with the brand objectives. TSJ willing to throw money at issue as long as it continues to grow to secure adequate cash flow for the investors or more accurately to carry the real estate assets after operating expenses. Bryc is being pitched and courted but sees little value in FCV and merging the teams would be prohibitive from a logistics and field space perspective. A lot of talk but no action. I understand bryc is not the only team in discussion. |
Sounds more like if TSJ can't strike a deal then they may bail on FCV. |
What does "sexist" mean these days? When I was younger it referred to the practise of unfair discrimination based on the criterion of sex alone. This was wrong the theory went because all people - men and women - should be judged on their merits. And if a woman performed equal work, then she should receive equal pay. Made sense to me back then. Now it seems one is not permitted to point out that women are not as good at sports as boys, and that consequently they are not as entertaining to watch. But this is a case where women are not equal to men - so I don't see why it's sexist at all to point that out. I disagree with the OP in that I perfectly well see why people care. It's because people don't watch their kids because of their ability. They watch their kids because they are their kids and they care just as much about their daughters as their sons. In just the same way they cheer just as loudly for Johnny on the rec team as they do for Jimmy on the travel team. The fact that the PP doesn't understand this might make him a bit of a dim bulb, but it doesn't make him sexist. It wouldn't surprise me if he were sexist mind you - but I don't think you can draw that conclusion from the statement as written. |
let's circle back we're busy dunking on TSJ |
Please stop with this IMG sports academy nonsense. IMG is a boarding school centered around athletics. It has a campus the size of a college campus complete with a golf course. The TSJ would fit inside IMG's parking lot. The TSJ can't support running soccer, LAX, Hockey etc as the hosting facility. They lack the infrastructure to do so. They have one, ONE field. All they can do is put their patch on some local club and say they are some kind of Academy, but really the teams are not much more than an amenity. They can't buy BRYC AND get local fields because the TSJ is a for-profit and county field space is prioritized to local non-profits. They can pay the going rate for fields but that cost is prohibitive. This is why they bought FCV and are stuck out at Evergreen. This is why the FCV ECNL, GA/DA teams were always at Evergreen because Evergreen is a private and not county fields. While TSJ is an amazing facility it can't host 6 GA teams on one field and still support LAX, Football, Baseball and everyone else who rents there. I could see TSJ ending their relationship with FCV and purchasing BRYC because at least BRYC has ECNL as well as a boys ECNL program. And for BRYC to want to sell they would want their people still involved. It would be a more logical geographic choice anyway and get TSJ out of leasing space at Evergreen. |
| ^-- oh, it can hold six "GA" teams if you 'catch my drift' |
Sounds like they will bail either way and FCV needs them more than the other way around at this stage. Why not bail on FCV to avoid any issues with merging clubs. The FCV players are capable of finding other teams in this area at all levels of soccer if they are concerned with how TSJ may impact them. Why not just end the deal at the end of the spring season and move on without FCV? |
There isn't anything to bail on other than the Evergreen lease, coaching contracts and the players. If TSJ simply buys BRYC, players, coaches are replaced. BRYC fields are closer, allowing the club to utilize TSJ's fields more and actually be able to charge the teams for the use. The deal would also allow the TSJ to actually double its number of players because of the boys program. TSJ, also bailing on FCV pretty much forces the players to scramble to BRYC or find another club. FCV would no longer exist and be out of GA thus strengthening BRYC as well as other local ECNL clubs. Perhaps Bobby and Christian stay on board but either way, FCV no longer exists and would essentially be out of GA. |
If TSJ bailed, wouldn’t FCV just go back to being FCV? Not sure what the TSJ brand does for FCV other than line the pockets of the directors and coaches. |
Could TSJ just sell FCV? |
Exactly--once whenever whatever terms expire with FCV, TSJ should just move on. FCV could still exist, and if they have to fold there are plenty of other clubs in the area that can absorb the FCV players at all levels. There is no need to talke about merging unless perhaps there is a resource issue that would benefit both sides by conslidating (e.g. coaches, facilities, players etc.)--and this would really only benefit FCV. If FCV folded or got kicked to the curb by TSJ any competitive players wanting to leave could try out for BRYC. |
LOL NO!!! TSJ owns FCV. There is no FCV other than keeping the name for continuity and marketing. They own the name, the rights and they simply pay the same coaches. Instead of the profits going to Christian they now go to TSJ. Christian sold his risk exposure in return for a stable job. TSJ now owns the club as well as the risk. They could bring an entire new staff or conversely just decide to cut their losses and not do club soccer if they wanted. They may find that a rec program is more profitable than an elite soccer program. TSJ may also decide to just rent out their field to any and all clubs who want climate controlled training facilities. It just depends on what their business model and plan is. FCV's results on the field are terrific but who knows what the books look like. Bleeding a boys program since the club purchase probably didn't help the bottom line. So, if TSJ buys BRYC, FCV is kinda no more and are out of GA. The kids that want to will migrate to BRYC and TSJ will stop leasing at Evergreen. |
To who? And what are you buying? It would be easier to just hire the coaches you want and hope they bring the players. |
