You noticed I didn’t include “does anyone care about girls soccer” in the quote that I said was sexist. That is because it was not sexist, just like saying does anyone really care about boys ECNL is not sexist. The sexist part was “ the best of whom would be easily beaten by even middling boys. It's like these poor girls don't have any brothers, so their fathers (and mothers?) pour all this intense sports-related desire onto them.” Indicating girls aren’t worth watching bc they would lose to younger boys or that parents must not have sons to be interested in girls soccer. Both comments sexist, but you already know that.
What does "sexist" mean these days? When I was younger it referred to the practise of unfair discrimination based on the criterion of sex alone. This was wrong the theory went because all people - men and women - should be judged on their merits. And if a woman performed equal work, then she should receive equal pay. Made sense to me back then. Now it seems one is not permitted to point out that women are not as good at sports as boys, and that consequently they are not as entertaining to watch. But this is a case where women are not equal to men - so I don't see why it's sexist at all to point that out. I disagree with the OP in that I perfectly well see why people care. It's because people don't watch their kids because of their ability. They watch their kids because they are their kids and they care just as much about their daughters as their sons. In just the same way they cheer just as loudly for Johnny on the rec team as they do for Jimmy on the travel team. The fact that the PP doesn't understand this might make him a bit of a dim bulb, but it doesn't make him sexist. It wouldn't surprise me if he were sexist mind you - but I don't think you can draw that conclusion from the statement as written.
