Nearly Half of DC's Vaccine Doses Have Gone to Non-Residents

How? Fake address? Then report them!!! I hate residency cheaters! Or any kind of cheaters!

As for the original article, DC has a lot of employers that qualified, such as hospitals, and many commute in. Just think of all the hospital employees that got vaccinated. My DH is one of them and we live in NoVa.

The shots that are designated for qualified employers come from batches that are administered by programs for this employers. In other words, nurses, doctors, teachers etc are not showing up at clinics to get shots. Their employer rosters its employees and DC arranges a location for the shots to be administered or designs a program for its administration (CVS, Walgreen).

So the 46 yo chef in question here from MD is not a hospital health care employee just walking into a Howard clinic. There is mor e to this story and it probably involves the friend of a friend of a friend.

Medical/hospital workers already qualify in DC PP and have access. This was a clinic in which Howard U was allotted 500 doses of DC vaccine (presumably; does not say otherwise) to run outreach to the AA community. The issue is the two people cited were MD residents. That is not the DC community.

I don't care. If they can get AAs in to get the shot, I don't care where they live! Good for Howard and the other community leaders who are trying to overcome vaccine hesitancy for vulnerable populations. The nonstop bean counting is going to make you bitter and crazy.

White Ward 2, expecting to get a shot by late spring or early summer and fine with it.

I care. That means an AA person from MD got a vaccine over an AA person from DC. Speaking of bean-counting, this will be reflected in the low DC AA vax rates driving current zip code sign up policy that affects everyone. Please don't discount the ripple effect of so much vaccine going to out of staters, though if you want to "donate" yours to someone else it's simple-don't sign up until everyone else in America has had their shot. This is DC's vaccines for DC's residents. There are questions raised by this article to be answered by DC and Howard U. MD can run their own outreach clinics.

Our goal is to reduce cases and save lives. And to encourage vaccinations and outreach among high risk populations. If you think the people in Suitlland somehow never come into contact with people from DC, then I don't think you live here at all. Literally every shot that goes into the community helps everyone, no matter which side of the state line they live on. Maybe the Suitland lady will be able to persuade her parents or sisters to get their shots now.

PS. Howard can vaccinate its patients however it wants. I know AAs (cancer patients and DC residents all) who've gotten shots at Howard, GW and Sibley, and those vaccines aren't coming from the general vaccinate.dc.gov pool.

These are not patients. This is an outreach clinic. But you bring up a good point, I would like to know how much of DCs hospital supply is going to out of state residents. We don't get to do that and then complain that our DC AA population is not vaccinated,. Also "our goal"-remember?

Here's a thought--DC clearly does not want to be a separate entity with something pretty straightforward like vaccinating DC residents. Why don't we give up dreams of statehood and merge with MD at this point? Then I can sign up at the MD drive through clinics that Hogan is getting up and running.

You beat me to this. This is clearly step one of the DC retrocession to MD. MD residents are not simply helping themselves to DC resources but are being encouraged to. Let's just get it on and start the retrocession. I would not mind being a resident of the city DC in the state of Maryland. What would it change? At least I'd get more accountability.

I don't know about all the hospitals, but Sibley is only vaccinating DC patients. This was frustrating to my parents, just over the border in Md, who have used Sibley for years. But both of them eventually got vaccinated, one through Medstar and one at a MD clinic.

The article also said that Howard was trying to get the vaccine to its PATIENTS at the clinic: Staff at the university’s hospital called their patients personally to invite them to get vaccinated, debunk myths and ease any fears.

Since you're so invested in this, why don't you tell us your age, race and Ward, and we will try to help you get a vaccine?

Are you claiming Howard doesn't have 500 DC patients who would LOVE the vaccine? In that case, but all means--let's just start delivering our vaccine straight to MD. Also, let's merge with them. Clearly we are just a service branch.
