It's not a question of D.C. failing to request enough doses because they only asked for its population; it's that the entire distribution system only allocates the doses based on population. You think D.C. wouldn't have requested more doses than we got if possible? |
There's no way they'll actually follow that whole priority list and vaccinate members of the media ahead of any normal people, though. |
DC can do what it likes with its supply, and they have decided to vaccinate essential employees, no matter where they live. I don't know why this is hard for you to understand. I am a DC resident and I support this strategy. Everyone is aware that this has created an imbalance. |
| Guys. Chill. MD and VA both gave DC thousands of their doses to help cover the DC workers who live in MD and VA. |
The NBC link at the beginning of this thread states that what DC has given out has far outpaced what has "come in". There is also no formal agreement in place between members of DMV or DC and Federal Govt to account for this giveaway. And yes, DC has pretty much admitted they did not ask for enough dosage for this system off the bat. I am going to get vaccinated through work long before DCs general population ever will due to this system (that's where I otherwise would be). I guess if you don't have a problem getting vaccinated in '22 or '23 it's cool, but you are speaking for your neighbors--many residents of color who have been disproportionately affected by this virus. |
| They did. They asked for enough vax for the whole healthcare pop since 75 percent of workers are out of state. It’s in the initial vaccine plan. |
This is happening in Montgomery County as well. Many of the healthcare workers and teachers do not live here and it was not accounted for when they allocated vaccine doses. |
It's just a mess. It's not about denying workers vaccine, but it is about making sure residents (who include workers) get vaccine. It is like peering through the wrong end of a telescope. |
They are carrying on vaccinating out of staters with insufficient supply requested Half of the vaccine that should "cover" DC residents is flowing outwards. Do you deny the NBC report (page 1 of thread)? |

Nesbitt acknowledges in Today's Metro section that the "out of state worker" vaccine plan is not working well for DC, and DC, MD, + VA are requesting that the Federal Government vaccinate federal workers, Metro and Postal from Federal Vaccine stock. Amazing the amount of people trying to apologize for/defend the original bad plan, rather than advocating for a better one. Glad to see Nesbitt working formally towards this. "Hope" is NOT a plan. Nor is giving half of DCs vaccine allotment away to out of staters while the vaccination of the elderly drags on and on (new goal: end of Feb for round 1).

Every single member of the DC Council has been vaccinated even though they're all working remote.
They give this lame excuse that they're essential but whatever. |
Who cares? They are continuity of government. |
The continuity of government group was about 3,000 persons wasn't it? Not just the Council. Ridiculous. |
Here it is. Phase 1B. They are treating Covid like a nuclear blast. Highly unlikely all these people work in person, or would catch the virus at once, and disrupt continuity of government. No wonder granny can't get a vaccine! 3,800 out of 310,000 people in Phase 1B. The critical government numbers are pretty small. And yeah, every garbage man in DC sure as hell is "critical!" |
