Mom’s height or dad’s height?

It makes sense, because boys inherit more genes from their mothers than from their fathers and 80% of height is genetic. In general, short moms have short sons and tall daughters if the dad is tall. Sometimes it's fascinating to see. I went to college with these 2 siblings, mom was a very tiny Vietnamese lady and the dad very tall, over 6'3. Their daughter was 6 ft tall and her brother barely 5'10.

Both men and women’s height centiles matter. If a woman is 50% (5 ft 4) and Dad is 5 ft 9-11 (50% centile approx) then a child has every chance of hitting 5 ft 11. If a woman is 5 ft 7 (65% centile) and the Dad is 5 ft 9-11 then a boy is likely to be over 6 ft.

But diet and hygiene matters massively - it’s widely known that greater height is caused by eating more vitamin A, C, D and not having a diarrhea / vomitting virus before 5. So if you grew up in a 3rd world country and are only 5 frt 3 and 5 ft 4 you can through lifestyle create much, much taller children.

I’m 5’5 1/2” and my dh is 6’1”. An online height predictor estimated our daughters would be 5’7”. One of them has ADHD. I once read that on average, people with ADHD end up about an inch shorter than their peers, after other factors are accounted for, regardless of whether they’re medicated. One of my dds is finished growing and is 5’7”. The other one (who has ADHD) is still growing, even though she’s 16 and has been menstruating for almost 5 years. She grew 1/4” this summer. She’s nearly 5’5”.

I am 5”5” (mom) and DH is 6’3”. I have a full grown teen DD who is 5’7” and an almost grown DD who might make it to 5’8”. So definitely taller than women on my side. They will be more similar to the height of my MIL and SIL.

I don't know what planet you are from, but for us humans, the DNA in our mitochondria comes only from the biological mothers.

Mitochondrial DNA makes up only 0.1% of the overall human genome and is passed down exclusively from mother to child.

Yes. That 0.1% controls the nuclear DNA and is a strong determinant of several metabolic metrics, autoimmune diseases susceptibility such as MS, life span and height. Read about maternal T2D inheritance.
There is also evidence that there is a strong maternal heritability of body mass index and obesity should be treated as a maternal inherited disease and not a willpower, overeating problem.
Nature is cruel.

And they are learning more every day. Hopefully they’ll learn more about debilitating mental illnesses like schizophrenia . They know so little.

My mother is tall and comes from a long line of tall women. My four siblings are off the chart tall. I’m 5’3”. How did that happen?

The how do you explain all of the families with a fat kid and a stick thin kid (or multiple of each?) I can think of several like this. We know a set of fraternal twins where one is a stick and one is very large. Mom is thin, dad is large.

I have a tiny mom (barely 5 feet) and a tall dad (over 6 foot). We're all over the place. One of my brothers is 5'6, one's 6' I'm a 5'7'' woman, my sister's the tallest of us, at 6'1'. I guess we're all quite a bit taller than mom.

I don't think it's easily predicted.

Add 6” to mom’s height and average with dad for boys
Subtract 6” from dad’s height and average with mom for girls

Your average may vary +/- 6”.
