| I’m 5’3” and DH is 6’1”. Our 10.5 year old son is on track to be 6’1” as well. DH’s mother is 4’11” and his father was 6’2” but DH is the tallest of the three sons. We have a 12.5 year old who was adopted and her birth parents are short with her birth mom at 5’3” and her birth dad at 5’5”. She is still under 5’ and I think is predicted to get to 5’1” or possibly 5’2”. |

In our families it’s dads height. My dad is petite 5’8 and I’m 5’1. His sisters are little like me. My mom is tall as is the rest of her family. Dhs mom is short but he’s tall like his dad (over 6’).
Both of our kids are super tall like dad, both the boy and girl. Still growing up but they’re the tallest of peers and hover in the 95th to 99th percentile. I read something that with improved nutrition that most kids should be taller than their parents. Not sure what that means though- most people are taller than me. |
| Add you parents height together by inches and divide by 2. Then add and subtract 2 inches both ways. This is the height range for offspring. |
How old are your kids? |
| In my family, girls usually inherit dad's height and boys Mom's height. My 5' tall mom married a 6' tall dad. All tall girls and short to average boys. |
Could be either or neither. As op above mentioned, same sex siblings would have similar heights but they don’t. |

DH is 6'3"
I am 5'2" DS, 18, currently 6 feet (my guess, he will get another inch or two) DD, 16, 5"6' also maybe another inc |
Why was it only me that stopped growing at 14? |
|
DH: 6’3” or 6’4”, built like swimmer (long arms, broad shoulders), me: 5’2” and narrow.
Kids: DS 1 has always been tall but not super tall and thin, like 40th weight but 80-90 percentile height. Was born skinny and average height. DS 2 has always been very tall and athletic/proportional. 95th percentile height and weight as a baby. |
How old are they now? |
| Lol no, that’s definitely not how it works. Scientifically, it’s a combination of parents’ heights (adjusting for gender), and also grandparent height factors in. Anecdotally, I know far more families where it has gone the other way (short mom/tall dad = tall daughters/short sons). Also, there are genetic flukes (my best friend’s family growing up had two boys and a girl - girl is 5’3 as an adult, one brother 5’8 and the other 6’4). You just never know. |
| Interesting thread. My kids are still growing, so it's hard to say. But I think my DD (15) is done at 5'4"--which kind of surprises me, as I am 5'10" and my husband is 5'11". Her paternal grandmother is on the shorter side though, so maybe that's where it comes from. |
I stopped growing by 12.

My dad was 5’8
Mom is 5’7 I (Female) am 5’5 And my brother is 6’0 |
You could be describing my family. I'm 5'7.5", and my husband is 5'8". Our daughters (early 20s) are 5'4.5" and 5'5". Our son is 6'1". I think he's done growing, but he's 17, so he may still add another inch or so. Given our heights, the girls fall in the expected range. No clue what happened with our son. Neither one of us can think of a male relative who is taller than 5'10-11" (and in my husband's familt, they're often shorter than that). |
