Yeah, I had a 1370 and it was the highest SAT score in my grade at an UMC suburban high school. 1982. Times have changed.


What's changed are not the scores but rather the sheer number of kids going to college. If you graduated from high school in the 80s, you were in a big population trough. It was simply easier to get a seat in college then, no matter how "elite" the college.

Your demographics are all wrong. The number applying is declining now. The biggest difference is kids apply to so many more schools now (largely because it is much easier to do so). As for the SAT, it has been re-centered, so average scores are much higher now.
