Apply to Delaware! He’ll be in the honors college and get aid. It kind of feels like uva. Great school and he’ll love it. |
Wait list offers/admits are ALWAYS for full pay. |
White or Asian? No way. URM? Good chance. |
I'm a millennial... |
I know this is going to sound terrible but what about the mid families? We have two parents working and make a good salary together. But, its expensive to live in a city. So, we won't qualify for aid but cannot full pay. I should just quit my job and then apply for financial aid. |
For an average Nova or OOS student it is too low. 1500 is the 75th percentile for those students who accepted and a 4.49 is the 75th percentile GPS. Are you low income, quest ridge. Blue rifge scholar, URM, first generation or basketball |
PLEASE tell us she URM or recruitable!! You are so naive if she doesn’t have a hook ... |
OP: Nope. So, I guess we have confirmed the counselors "meh" |
OP: The sad of it is that she was a 780 for the English but only a 710 for the math - she plans to never take math again and just focus on history and poli sci in college. |
Really? NP, and sorry for the thread drift, but I'm curious about this. I'm old - got something like a 1420 or 1430 back in the mid 90s, and got in to both Caltech and MIT (chose Caltech). But I think it was a 790 in math, lower in verbal, so I doubt I would have gotten into any Ivies - didn't try. The numbers I hear today are insane... Are they really the equivalent of my 1420? |

She needs more match schools. If you are full pay look at BC, NYU, Miami, Wisconsin and University of Washington (since she's not a CS major).
Also check graduation requirements because it's not always easy to get a degree without taking math. Unless, she will have Calc AP scores to test out of requirements. |
I just think competition and prep have gone up. If you had a 1410 you'd go anywhere almost. Not now. But, back then, you took the SAT once, maybe twice with no help and you applied to three maybe four schools. Done. |
Yeah sounds about right: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT Looks like the 99th percentile drifts up 40 points every 10 years or so |
OP; if she’s aiming that high she should be taking the SAt II subject matter tests. Ask the counselor |
| OP here: She took world history subject test and got a 800. Again, she's good on the english/history side. She was going to take more but with tests canceled, we now won't. |
