What a terrible way to select a college.

Take SAT. Slot score. Show up in September. No wonder these kids are depressed and zonked out on Adderrall.

All of the Top 20 schools are reaches for everyone -- and particularly if you do not have a hook (recruited athlete, legacy, URM, etc.). Ask your daughter to find one or two that are a good fit and apply with the understanding that admission odds are likely not much better than the overall admission rate (i.e. 10% or less).

Even better, if you have a clear favorite and it offers ED (and is affordable) then she can apply ED to slightly boost her chances of admission.

Top choice I think is Georgetown which has early action not ED....

OP: Her list includes Cornell, Princeton, Georgetown, Univ. of Notre Dame, Rice and Carleton --- in that order I believe, and then some "safety" schools. She would love to add Harvard/Yale but knows that is not possible so they are now off.

...it changed back in 2016 to 1600...


...that said another poster is correct my score back then is equivalent to a 1500+ now by percentiles

I had a national award, leadership positions, volunteer work and a 4.0, top 5 in the school. I was not full pay but didn't receive that much in aid and got scholarships to cover that aid.

This is just so far off for 1490 and 5 APs. Sorry to say. Our child was just in this position with a similar SAT and more than twice as many APs. That's a really nice academic record, the the reality is that the 25-50 ranking range is the place to look for matches and safeties, and maybe add a few reaches in the top 25.

I think the Yale etc poster is joking, people. Probably (deservedly) mocking the safeties for high stats poster.
