My elementary age kids practiced mask wearing during the summer and they have no problem with it. My preschooler was not a fan initially, but when he saw his siblings going off to school with masks this morning, he immediately demanded a mask. I expect he will be fine wearing it when all the other kids are. He goes back Friday.

Has he worn it for hours at a time? That's the real issue. Even as an adult, wearing a mask for 5+ hours is really hard.

My kids are back in school full time. They do not have to wear masks for 5 hours straight. They get a snack and recess break mid-morning where they can remove the masks. They remove the masks for lunch and recess break. Then they remove the masks for mid-afternoon recess break. So at most they are wearing masks for 90 minutes-2 hours at a time.

He won't be wearing it for 5+ hours at a time, or anywhere near that. The school has fenced in a grassy area directly outside the preschool classrooms where the preschoolers will spend a lot of time. They don't have to wear masks outside, just distance. They have canopies and access to a picnic shelter, as well as personal umbrellas for rainy days.

My 8 year old is on day 3 of back to school, and says everyone got used to everything really fast - doesn't care about the mask, the plastic shields at their desks, the kids logging in from home. When people cited "but how will kids possibly wear masks!!" as a reason to not go back to school, you knew they were just grasping at straws to make any excuse possible.

We are wrapping up our second week. Our kids have said the exact same thing. Masks are no longer even thought about. The Democrats instance on keeping things shut down has been a complete disaster and will haunt us and the economy for years to come.

The government requires it, probably will for 2-3 years. So happy the kids start in person school on Tuesday here in Virginia.

Ask away. Just finishing up the first week and things are going GREAT!

I'm so jealous. We are contemplating moving to a more sensible place where opening has to do with health metrics and not teacher's unions.

Just finished week 1 here as well and it was great. Kids are ok with the masks and happy to be back in school. School utilized outside space for class and all went really well.

Just picked ours up after completing second week. Everything is going well and the masks are a complete non issue. So happy and relieved. Best of luck to all.

We just finished week 1, and all is good. DS (8) is soooo happy. He's pretty antisocial and doesn't have friends that he saw during covid break, but he was totally fine with it. He seemed in good spirits the whole break so we really didn't think he needed to go back to school for the social aspect. And then i picked him up from school on day 1, and holy smokes, i forgot what my happy hyper kid was like. It's been pretty great to see this week.

No word of any covid cases in our school district after 1 week, but i don't even know if they've agreed to release data - so it's possible they just aren't saying. But the next county over has been open for 3 weeks and definitely has cases that they report, but it still seems to be 1 or 2 kids per school who likely got it in the community, and doesn't yet seem to be spreading in the schools.

I honestly just went and asked my wife if she posted this!! It sounds, verbatim, what our situation is like. So relieved at the choice we made and that things are going well. Continued good luck!
