I feel like I have to comment here to break this trend. I have two kids born 2 years apart. My first has no issues. My second has autism, level 2 with language issues.

I’m not the PP but you can read studies that proved toxic chemicals like bpa come out in breast milk on a graph that goes down over time. So the first days and weeks get a lot of chemicals and then less and less over time and for subsequent kids. Chemicals are known to also cross the placenta so it’s a logical conclusion that the first baby gets more of the toxic load compared with the later children. Middle (now teen), slew of medical issues as a toddler and preschooler. ASD and anxiety.
Adopted youngest. Anxiety and PTSD.

If this was even remotely true, 80% of the world's special needs kids would be coming out of China over the past 10 years given the insane pollutants they are breathing in every single day. But we can obviously see it's not true.

And autism is not the spectrum of special needs. Cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, spina bifida...all fully represented in Asia in far greater percentages than 1 percent. Autism percentages are highly manipulable.

I am from China, and I came here to the states for college. And, you may not believe what I say, but I never knew or saw any autistic or noticeable special need child growing up there in China. My first child is SN & autistic , DH grew up here telling me that kids are so easily to be labeled with diagnosis here. He is doing fine with mild speech disorder & mild social deficit. Other than that, he looks like other kids. All of teachers are shocked when I tell them he is on spectrum.

I’ve taught around the world. A lot of kids with disabilities are hidden at home or in state or religious institutions. I can’t speak about China specifically, but a student’s mom took him back to South Korea when he was diagnosed with autism and many people stopped her and told her that they had a child or adult sibling hidden at home like her son.

+1 I volunteered at a private home in FL where families from Central and South America would bring their children with special needs to give up for adoption, because they said in their country the children may not survive or would get no services/help. There were 15 or so children when I was there and I met a couple of the birth moms who were visiting.

First an only. Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD and Anxiety. I was very crunchy the 5 years or so before I got pregnant as well. We were vegan (whole foods vegan, not process vegan), only used glass, purchased most things from the bulk bins at Moms... Basically did everything I could to be as healthy as possible for kid #1. Pregnancy sucked, kid was awesome, super chill and crazy easy. We did not feel the pull to have another.
