How is this possible? It’s not the 1970s anymore. People know this stuff.

NP.

Water treatment methods / ancient lead pipes bringing water to your home. It is an an issue in many cities, not just Flint. Was a problem in DC in early 2000s, for example.

Both my kids have some issues but first far more significantly.

Yes! There was a report on what happened in DC but it wasn't widely distributed. They changed the chemical used to disinfect water at treatment plants from chlorine to monochoramine. This simple change then resulted to a change in the PH of the water, so as it traveled down the old leaded distribution pipes to our homes, the lead was now leaching out of the pipes. I haven't heard reports of this happening in other parts of the country, but Lord knows these kinds of changes don't usually happen in isolation. Lead poisoning from our water was likely going on everywhere in the country.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, It is most common in the first born because they acquire 2/3 of mom’s toxin burden in utero. Due to high metabolic rate of the fetus and demand for calcium, Mom goes through temporary state of osteoporosis while pregnant. This allows the release of a lifetimes worth of toxins, most commonly lead that is stored in bone. But this is just part of the picture. Nearly all kids with autism have a gene variant called MTHFR that is involved in many important processes, not the least of which is detoxification. Folate acts through this pathway and many believe the use of synthetic folate found in most drug store prenatal vitamins is implicated in the development of autism. The reason is that Pp with MTHFR variants cannot properly utilize synthetic folate. It actually blocks real, dietary folate from the receptor and prevent real folate from getting into our cells. As a result, kids with autism are completely unable to detox and they hold on to toxins passed on by mom. Good news is that activated forms of folate, including the prescription form called leukovorin, can help many of our kids. Many success stories there. You can ask your doctor to test for MTHFR status, but if your child was born with a “stork bite” or “sugar bug” at birth, you can be pretty confident what you’re dealing with. I write none of this with the intention of making moms feel guilty or depressed. I hope it empowers some one to learn more and to help their child to live a healthier life

Can you say more about this? I am pregnant now, what can I do?

EPA has changed the rules on lead pipes several times since the 1970s because of problems like this.

You can buy a lead test kit at Home Depot. Also you can put a reverse osmosis filter on your tap. Water tastes better with a filter anyway.

First born is autistic, diagnosed after sibling was born. Seeing the sibling's social development underscored how atypical her social behavior was, and led to diagnosis.

My first child has Down Syndrome, but not my next 2. Kids born when I was 36, 38, 41.

We screened and we knew but no way was I getting rid of my daughter. I have 2 cousins who have Ds so I knew it was no big deal (in our family) as we do not treat any of our children differently. You have never attended a more fun birthday party than one made up of mostly Ds kids. Guaranteed. Happiest kids on earth.

Second child, only. Autism. Did not impact whether we had more children. We had a few more.

Are you saying a stork bite is an indication of SNs? Has this been scientifically confirmed? Do all races get stork bites?

1 genetic disorder that impacts the hair, skin, and teeth.

The genetic disorder also impacts learning ability in some children but I’ve seen no issues so far.

I will be adopting my next child, I’ve always wanted to grow my family through adoption as an adoptee. But if it’s not in the cards I’ll be happy with one.

And yes it has impacted my decision, I have the same disorder, and it is X-Dominant.

I'm the PP. You would be shocked how common it is. I'm on a group of lead poisoned kids moms. Its tragic really.any apt or house built before 1980 is at risk. Lead is in lots of toys. In our case, apartment had chipped lead paint that landlord reassured us wasn't lead.

It happens to rich kids and poor kids. Do some research

This is fascinating to me. My daughter was adopted as a toddler from an orphanage in a foreign country and she had high levels of lead when she came home but she is a typical child and has no special needs (unlike my bio child). I guess it doesn’t always significantly effect child?

Ignore that PP. Almost none of it is true.
