+1 That's obnoxious. |
If I had the option to keep them home I would. We aren't any safer than we were in March when we demamnded schools close. |
Yes definitely |
I never demanded that schools close. |
Yes. It will lessen the spread of the virus. We don’t need preschool or daycare childcare. We aren’t sending DD. |
I can’t imagine my 3 year old literally not being in contact with another child until age 4. There is no way that won’t cause issues. |
Proof that it will lessen the spread? |
Not PP but don't you see how having fewer people together would lessen the spread of the virus? Or do you think schools are magical places where the virus doesn't dare enter? |
Preschools have not been the source of any outbreaks outside of places that aren’t taking it seriously— Texas. So I think they can absolutely be open safely, if done so carefully. |
But what qualifies as a “need” to you? If you can work from home and give your 6 year old an iPad to stay quiet while you’re on work calls does that mean you don’t “need” childcare? If your spouse makes plenty of money so that you could quit your job and still pay your bills, but you work because you want to, does that count as “needing” childcare. What if you can afford a nanny, but it means dwindling your savings, does that mean you don’t “need” school? |
School (even preschool) is important for reasons other than childcare but during a (largely uncontrolled and mismanaged) pandemic, I can’t justify sending my preschool age kids to in person school when I’m a SAHM. The fewer people involved in in person school, the safer, and other people’s (working parents, for example) kids need to be there whereas mine don’t. I wish my kids could go to school because they love school and miss it terribly (and id love the break ![]() |
How is this actually known if were not doing contact tracing? What if asymptomatic kids in school are spreading it but the source of the spread isn’t identified since the kids themselves don’t get sick/tested? |
We are doing contact tracing, at least in MD. Have you really not been paying attention? If an asymptomatic kid infected a teacher, the school is required to notify the parents that a teacher has it, so we would know that there is a case, even if we’re not positive it came from a kid. |
+1. It’s simply the laws of contagion. How can you spread a cold if you aren’t exposed to a cold. Same with this virus. It may weaken the virus itself. |
What if a kid spreads it to their parent, grandparent, neighbor, etc who then spreads it to others? I understand that if a teacher or student is sick and gets tested, then the school will notify everyone. But what if kid gives it to parent who is also asymptomatic and then spreads it to a stranger at the grocery store? How would anyone know the source? |
