Wondering which is better at avoiding groupthink. We all live in a bubble but will one be better than the others in terms of exposing her to ideas that are actually different from those in the bubble? And is one worse?

I have a similar conundrum and I am leaning towards GDS because of that reason.

I’m very struck how many kids got WL at Maret even though they got into schools that are “supposed” to be better such as GDS and Sidwell. My friend’s rising 9th grader is in at GDS and Madeira, WL at Maret. Is it common for Maret to heavily wait list or is this just a quirky year?

Public or private?

PP here. More accurately, I should have asked if it’s a quirky sample. No disrespect intended toward any school — these are all superb options. I’m just curious if Maret has something in its admission tactics that results in a lot of WL kids.

My understanding is that it’s because it’s really, really small. Fewer spaces = more that are waitlisted.

Makes sense. Thanks.

K Girl 98th percentile on WPPSI
I’m new to the area so the intense application progress for kindergarten was a bit of a shock for me, but overall my daughter seemed to enjoy taking the WPPSI and loved the playdates as each school.

Grace School Alexandria- Accepted
Alexandria Country Day- Accepted
Burgundy Farm- Waitlisted

I really fell in love with Burgundy’s campus and loved how much the parents were involved as volunteers. I thought we would be a great fit there. The letter says if a space/ financial aid becomes available than we could get moved from the waitlist, so we’ll see. I’m still very happy with the schools that did admit us.

I guess going to Beauvoir. Not sure but seem like this year K for Beauvoir is easier to get into than previous years.

Did you get a no or a WL?

Rejected to both Sidwell and GDS... not even on waitlist

Out top choice was GDS

Do you know how many families would love to get into beauvoir and didn’t? And now you’ll deign to come? I hope you don’t. You sound like a real jerk. Beauvoir is a nice community. Hate to hear you might be coming.

No... why don't you tell us? I heard that Beauvoir was much easier this year, as well.

I know three great families just from today who didn’t get in. That doesn’t provide numbers, but neither does your post. What your post does do, though, is make some great people who already feel sad feel worse. And based on what? What you “heard.”

People on this board are unkind and socially inept.

+1. And also possibly trying to make the waitlist move by trying to dis a school. So, unkind, socially inept, and pathetic.

Maret is small. They just don’t have the space.

But note that Maret is waitlisting kids who got in Sidwell and GDS. So, they are doing very well in terms of the quality of the applicants.
