Get Off My Internet. Blog and message boards about annoying bloggers. It’s a super snark site (in a good way for us those who enjoy snark).

Is it really "in a good way?" Or is it just grown-ups bullying each other? I am a snarky, sarcastic person. I don't think there is anything wrong with a little snark among adults. But this site is way way over the top.

GOMI has almost everything it mocks other blogs for. Secret alcoholism? check. Grifting off readers when your day job isn't making the rent? Check. Having a blog but blocking or being totally unable to deal with criticism directed at you? Alice used to read her user's site mail to one another and deactivate accounts based on what was in it. There is a subreddit called blogsnark that discussed all this and it was shocking (probably blogsnark has the same conversation about bloggers you're looking for fwiw).

Anyway, be careful out there.

I just read the Dooce post from May - awful and if not exaggerated wow, she was a very high functioning alcoholic. That makes me sad for her and her family. But I'm also really upset by all her recent photos. I haven't followed her for quite some time and I was shocked at how thin she is. And also how she is flaunting how thin she is - all the belly shots, off the shoulder, backless etc shots that show off how bony she is. She was always slim but healthy looking. It looks really unhealthy and seems like she's engaged in some anorexic-chic or something. I really hope she gets help

Ding, ding, ding. Nailed it.

It is sad, I have not read her work in about a decade but I remember her posts about finally sleeping after childbirth, her painful post partum depression,.posts about redoing the kitchen, about her gratitude for her husband. It all seemed so relatable and her writing (reflecting how her mind worked) had much more clarity and well....it's now looking like a different mind. Not completely but in profound ways...I am also wondering about the effects of an underlying (untreated?) bipolar and/or borderline process as well as the alcohol abuse.

Having said that, I sympathize with her struggles with depression and yes, now with addiction. I wonder how serious she is about going the distance. I wish her well, but she is mostly too dramatic for me.

I don't know what made me think of Dooce today, but think of her I did, so I went to her blog.

Her most recent post is from August and it's sort of readable. There's obviously a lot going on in her head. I for one think she's still medicated in some way, whether it's alcohol or something else.

This is from her Instagram where she is allegedly celebrating 9 months sober:

DP
"9 months sober" = "gestated a sober baby" because human gestation is typically 9 months. It's a metaphor.

The "metaphor?" Yeah, I'm the one who posted it, and I'm not defending it.

Seriously, she is slurring her words (not just the Southern accent, but actually cannot fully form the words), and the cadence is off, and it's an absolute mess of a video. None of this is good. None of it.

PS: Compare her natural accent with normal speech patterns in the Culturelle commercial here (posted 2015): https://www.instagram.com/tv/8ldZELAkSO/

with the recent one:

I have to admit I want to know what's really going on because I am not buying that blog post, that video, or the other 10 month sober post on her Insta. And there are these seemingly normal family life pictures of her kids during times where she was sleeping in her car? What?!

The snark is mostly projection on Alice's part.

It used to be fun just like Reblogging Julia.

I guess I grew up and out.
