When naming RMES#5, BOE ignored nicely organized community input submitted to them and went with whatever fits their agenda

Alternatively, BoE considered all of the input but ultimately made a decision you disagree with.

Yeh, They made the decision that 90% of the community who actually live in the school zone disagree with..

It's the Montgomery County Board of Education, not the Richard Montgomery Cluster Board of Education. I understand that there were upset people, but that's how it works.

See, that is exact attitude BOE has, They want to put whatever they like and happily move on, and don’t care about people who will need to live with their decision on daily bases.

Of course it is, and what's more, it's the appropriate attitude for them to have.

Tonight is the second time I heard about Garrett Park likely being on the chopping block. Anyone else hear this?

DP

And this is why again, MCPS is too damn large of a school system. In smaller, town based systems, school leadership is held accountable to the community. There is none of that in MCPS

Now I kind of getting the idea why MCPS is going downhill so rapidly...

When has any actual leadership ever attended a public forum. I went for fifteen minutes tonight but couldn't stand the Soviet era rules. I have been observing Mr. Smith's attendance -- and I am not aware of a public meeting where he has actually be present (besides press conferences), particularly after Damascus incident. Tonight he came via taped video message. He sometimes sends Ms. Navarro. Will someone please correct me? Please provide time and place and some sort of evidence of his attendance in the past year to a public forum. Derrick Smith (MCPS' very talented flak) -- here's your chance to actually answer a question and not spin...

I said this up thread. As a parent, I saw this after the Rockville HS case and then again after Damascus. This is the way Jack Smith rolls.

There is zero interest in actually hearing what parents have to say. It is all about appearances and pretending to hold meetings that really mean nothing.

Who is proposing to close Garrett Park ES?

ES: 37% of students in MCPS do not attend their closest school
MS: 45% of students in MCPS do not attend their closest school
HS: 38% of students in MCPS do not attend their closest school

That's CURRENTLY in MCPS.

Those are the boundaries that people want to maintain because they want "neighborhood schools."

How is this even possible? I call BS.
Kids who are bussed away from their closest school are special ed and magnet students, I'll give you that, but, looking at our catchment area, there's no way almost half of my child's middle school schoolmates live closer to another middle school. No way.

Should go to Woodward, are they saying something else?

It almost seems like MCPS is tired of all the special programs, which make MCPS so unique and special. The busing would take less (no) creativity (and work for them).

I don't mean to be snarky, PP, and I apologize, but this is the equivalent of "There's no snow on the street in front of my house, why did MCPS close?"

Yep they are right on the line and good FARMS. redistricting them to einstein or wheaton is Low hanging fruit. Then of course the ES may close because everyone leaves town but that’s a problem for another day lol.

Garrett Park should reach out to the cluster rep.

My daughter lives in there and at Thanksgiving she said they are worried. Their current HS is very overcrowded too.

For shame.

? why? what happened?

Parents behaving badly. Shouting, heckling, interrupting, booing, preventing the presenters from presenting.
People should be ashamed of themselves for behaving like this. What is everyone so afraid of?
