Kids can still get into multiple schools.

Not this year. They will be reviewed by the central office. This is the first year.

Oh. What does this mean? Can kids get acceptance to only one program rather than multiple programs like previous years?

I do not think kids will be limited to only one program. But since the central office will be reviewing all applications for all programs and they asked the students to rank their top 3, I think that they could use that information to accept and deny students because they will know whether they are likely to accept and which programs they really want to attend.

But to be honest, we don’t really know how it will work. We do know that the individual programs do not seem happy about this change because they don’t trust the central office to know how select the right students.

DC only clicked Blair as first choice during the test but did apply both RMIB (opt-out all regional IB) and Blair SMAC in the application form. Would that rule out of consideration RMIB ?

It means that the PP has no idea what this means.

The only help I gave DD on the test was to remind her not to leak anywhere in the essay her Asian heritage. And she rolled her eyes like I was so ignorant thinking she didn't know that already. Pretty funny, huh?

Do the applications come with a name? If she has a remotely Asian name, they likely know anyway!

Not really

Not funny or likely true.

DP

Oh, it is probably very true. We’re not Asian, but DD has a lot of Asian friends from when she was at the CES. These kids are not ignorant and they know quite well how the educational system in the US discriminated against Asians and how Asian students have to work harder to gain acceptance into various programs and colleges.

Looks at the racist PP above assuming that all Asian kids are ‘prepped’.

I think not. Not according to some actual posts from last year with actual results. But whatever..

Whatever... Close enough, I have the letter in front of me. Median at poolesville for admitted students on the math was 1 wrong for Global ecology and 2 wrong for SMACS

There was a question during / prior the test to which programs a kid applied?

Yes. They ranked their top three. I do not think it is going to affect the PP's application. I bet they will just assume that is their second choice.

That was a smart move!! Otherwise she would have written, in 5 paragraphs, that because she is Asian she's been going to prep classes every single weekend since she was 3 and therefore deserves to be in a magnet program.
You sound dumb. Are you sure you're actually Asian?

Does it really make you feel better to think that all (or most) Asian kids going to prep classes is the reason why they do well statistically at school (in all grades and all subjects)? I wonder what the psychological base such need is? BTW, DS never went to any prep class because we feel they are way overpriced, but if it is so effective raising students' school performance, MCPS should consider to pay for struggling students to take. Sounds like an easy solution to close the achievement gap without lowering the bar.

Do you know what the median is for Engineering and Biomedical?

Why? Was the test different, questions more difficult etc.. depending on which program they applied? Like more
advanced for SMAC then for other programs for instance?

That means MCPS will make sure the magnet programs have appropriate mix of students. Not solely based on academic achievement. For Asian/white kids, admission will be much more competitive because slots are taken by other less qualified students.

Do you even realize how racist it sounds to assume other applicants are less qualified than any white/Asian applicants?

They cannot take race into account. Stop saying that they will.
Anonymous
They would not know the race. But they know if FARMS or not.
