Last year a student from the shelter was admitted to Pyle. Same story. Held back. Obviously significant issues. Disrupted a PE class by yelling and disrespecting a teacher, who asked him to stop. Selling pot at at school. Eventually arrested and led out in handcuffs. Sad. No place else to put someone like this? And we are 'racist' if we don't want this sort of thing in the school? |

You can pry my frying pan from my cold dead hands
|
No, the frying pan thing was over at least 1/2 hour before the alarm was pulled. Not related |
Not all of the students living at the Greentree Shelter have “dangerous” backgrounds. Some arrive with families fleeing domestic violence situations or extreme financial hardship. It’s entirely possible that this person had no prior record at all. And while his actions were nowhere near justifiable, please also consider that Whitman is not innocent of racist incidents so until more information is released it’s not helpful to go nuclear on the attacker. It must be extremely difficult to come from the background he did, to a school like Whitman which is filled with wealthy entitled kids, some of whom throw the N-word around without thinking twice. |
|
Maybe start talking about protecting the students - not the rights of an *adult* with a dangerous background - during "One Whitman" and the counselors breakfast. Maybe that would help with the stress at the school.
+1 Lots of kids pay for the stupid behavior of a few dumb kids. |
Frankly I don't like the 4 year high school system precisely for this reason. There is a world of difference between 14 and 18. I have never liked the fact that you have 14 year old girls socializing with 18 year old men. A 7-9 Junior high would be better. That extra year of maturation would make a big difference. |
"18 year old men", indeed. How do you feel about 14 year old boys socializing with 18 year old women? |
Sure, but you do know that they run a private in patient psychiatric care program. The way into that program is to be involved in the CJ system but seems mentally unwell and to the program instead of or after jail. |
So you get to stereotype and profile whitman kids but anybody who does it in the opposite direction is racist. Got it wouldn't those kids fit in better at a school like blair? ! |
high fives all around in that case |

Another incident from the same group home last night.
Officers from the 2nd District of the Montgomery County Department of Police were dispatched around 10:45 pm last night to a group home located in the 6300 block of Greentree Road in Bethesda for the report of a missing person. Officers were notified that an adult male was missing from the group home around 9:00 pm. Staff at the group home were actively searching for the missing man when they finally located him on the Union Arch Bridge located at 7934 MacArthur Boulevard. Responding officer PO3 Marcella West along with PO2 Samuel Yun arrived at the Union Arch Bridge to discover the man had climbed the safety fence on the bridge and was getting ready to jump off the bridge and into traffic below. Officer West was able to grab the man and hold onto him, preventing him from jumping while Officer Yun climbed the safety fence and was able to secure the man from the other side. Additional officers arrived to assist and the man was eventually pulled to safety. The man was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. If it were not for the quick thinking and disregard for their own safety by the officers, a tragedy would have occurred and a life would have most certainly been lost. Commander Gagen of the 2nd District stated, “The quick and courageous actions taken by these officers helped save a life and avoid a tragedy from occurring. Their heroic efforts showed their dedication to public safety and it is a testament to who they are as Montgomery County Police Officers. I am truly thankful that the young man will be able to get the help that he needs and I couldn’t be more proud of our officers’ actions.” |
| Good grief. That poor kid. Thank goodness for the Officers. Didn't a teen boy go missing from that facility in the Spring too? |
Jack Smith wants students staying in high school until 21. |
this is the problem with society, how are we better with that kid still here. Not all lives are special. Now we get to enjoy more of him and for what? |
| Wimps at Whitman. Oceanside NY had a 30 person knife fight yesterday, two stabbed and one critical condition and school went in. Send the frying pan kid to NY they would stab him |
