Yes, this. So what do we win, PP? |
+1. |
Of course we know where "Washington, DC" is, and what the capital city of the country is. That wasn't the issue we're discussing, genius. The issue is whether people in the rest of the country think that "DC" means one and can only mean one thing in this country, which is obviously not true. There's honestly something really wrong with you to keep being in denial that you aren't the center of the universe. Maybe narcissism. |
Wait...you think that anyone who doesn't live in this area and doesn't automatically equate DC with Washington DC is a backwards hick who needs to open a book, turn on a television or look at a map and I'm the one who is condescending? Thank you Ms. Pot. And while you may have met a lot of people who may understand your context of DC meaning Washington DC, there are still many people out there, and not necessarily uneducated or ignorant people who don't automatically connect the abbreviation DC with Washington DC. You are the condescending one if you truly thinks that people who don't automatically understand your context when you use an abbreviation are uneducated and yes, you live in a bubble where the common usage of DC only refers to Washington DC when there are many places in the US where DC has a local reference that is more commonly used and they refer to the nation's capitol as Washington DC instead of just DC. Just because you've been to a few places on the West Coast where this doesn't hold true does not make it universal. |
Probably because you sound like the type of person who wouldn't survive anywhere except DC. East Coasters are usually fairly easy to spot around here, especially once that start talking. It's actually not really a good thing that they automatically know you're from Washington DC. |
Ok, if you say so. That’s clearly what you want to hear. |
I mean if this makes you feel like you are better than ppl in DC keep doing you. I’m sure you are a joy to be around and just fascinating. You go places and ppl stumble over themselves to wonder where you are from. |
| DC is full of crazies. |
Call them whatever you want. Your words not mine. |
Is there a place that isn’t? |
Well people do sometimes ask where I'm from because I don't sound American, but I manage to tell then without using local jargon that might be popular with several million people in some parts of the world but isn't something that everyone on the planet is familiar with. |
| Because I live in the District of Columbia, I say DC. When I lived in VA, I once told a person DC and after they asked for more specifics, I said Alexandria. That person then called me a poseur for suggesting I lived in the city when I actually lived in the burbs. Kind of funny. |
| DC native. Among friends I often call it Washington. I’m in my 40s and we always said that a lot growing up. I tell people I am from “Washington, DC.” |
| ^^to clarify I am from Cleveland Park so actual DC. |
Yeees. What is your point? |
