Thread fails to note that women are generally more attractive than men to begin with. And the average woman can do much more to look better with hair and makeup options than a guy can.

Basic fitness and grooming makes a big difference for both men and women. But there are higher standards for women in this regard and women are socialized from a young age to take these things much more seriously. Also, men are sometimes penalized for taking their fitness/grooming too seriously. It's seen as effeminate or gay.

It's basically a self reinforcing cycle.
