A few years ago a middle schooler committed suicide in a staff bathroom when he was told that he had to leave the school. I think it was at Frost. Twain or any other program should never be promoted as a punishment for throw away kids. |
| The union does not care about your contract. They will take your lunch, they will take your planning,. They will make you stay late. You have a problem take it up with you administrator. You squeal- union pretends like you never brought it up. Admin retaliates. You're unemployed. End of story and cycle repeats |
Agree, but what’s your suggestion? |
What a circus public education has become. |
This happens a lot in the private where I teach. I used to think this was just a private school thing, but no, it seems to be a generational thing. |

Putting something in the Teacher's coffee.
I never did hear what it was, but the teacher was off sick the next day. |

This year in my elementary school -
*Several teachers kicked and/or punched by students. *Students getting up and walking out of class all day, every day. Refuse to go to office when principal finds the student. Admin can't put hands on the kids and they know it so they just roam the halls and barge in on other classrooms. Parents refuse to take phone calls from the school. *Fights in the lunch room and playground several times a week. *Administrators punched, kicked and spit on. I'm so shocked parents of well-behaved students aren't calling and complaining. We aren't even a Title 1 school. |

I just quit.
resigned with prejudice after 20+ years in the system We are dealing with extreme cases now - high anxiety ("Jo Jo can't have anything lower than an A.") and no control over discipline. Many of the disciplinary measures are a joke. One of my friends in MS said she has to take three steps (as part of restorative justice) before contacting the parent! WHAT??? I'm done. I am never looking back. |
You are my hero. I wish I could but I'm a single parent and need the insurance. I don't know how to transfer my experiences as an administrator/teacher to private industry. If I did I'd be OUT! |
| I feel like it is getting to the point where every school needs a semi-ED room for the "lighter" ED cases (e.g. frequently disruptive but not violent). So that they are easier to move... we have more each year |
|
In our ES, more than one student bites/attacks/ scratches/launches at teachers.
Nothing is happening beyond having meetings and giving them restructured daily schedules. Nothing is being done about the violence and disruption of classroom instruction. |
Wow, this is awful. What part of MoCo are you in? |
I really hope that you are the poster I think you are. |
I'm in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. |
| In my middle school there are certain ED students that I feel should never be left alone at any point during the day and need a full time para. It just seems that MCPS isn’t serious about their needs. The goal is to just maintain them from disrupting the rest of the school and then pass them on to high school. Honestly, I can’t argue with that since we don’t have enough staffing to do more. |
