She can't live in El Paso. KTEP (NPR) broadcasts from the middle of El Paso with a very strong signal.

Op here. Because you have used every radio in El Paso and lived in every house? Give me a break. NPR works in my car but it doesn't work on our home radio. I could try to buy another radio but really it's besides the point.

So many unhelpful bitches on the thread. The immigrants/radio/apartment situations are unusual but not implausible, and a dumb thing to focus on for the purpose of this thread.

OP I have a friend who, like you, married a controlling man (who happened to be from another culture) and did not get out soon enough. She has 3 kids with him now and she is trapped. She works full time and does 100 percent of the housework and childcare when kids are not in school. She lacks things like her own smartphone, a safe car, and the ability to reasonably socialize, in spite of their HHI being pretty decent. Her husband makes it impossible for her to make plans or really do anything without his approval, and he seems to totally lack awareness of how this appears to most people. It’s sickening. Please make plans to get out. It isn’t good for kids to see their mother treated this way.

I took my dog on nice long walks. I learned how to cook things. I wasted so much less time. Why don’t you get a smartphone? That would be helpful. But you don’t NEED WiFi, no matter how much you think you do. There are so many other fun and constructive ways to pass the time.

Well bravo for you!!! We also admire your ability to COMPLETELY MISS THE REAL PROBLEM HERE.

Op here. Lol. She obviously did not have young children. I am bored to death without internet and tv.

It's a 100,000 watt station. It broadcasts not just all over West Texas but northern Mexico as well. There are only 6 radio stations in the US with more powerful transmitters.

Um 2hrs outside DC I cannot get NPR and I know for a fact there is a WVA station because I can get it in my car. I have a vacation home with no internet and have tried getting it.

Don't be ignorant.

Tell him that at night and all weekend he is not allowed to use his phone at home at all and he can use free internet in lobby.

But seriously this guy is bad news.

Why are you having two kids with this guy?

Wi-Fi is not the problem in this relationship.

Tell DH you're getting annoyed by male tenants in the lobby propositioning you.

No wifi isn't bad (mom of 3), in fact it is probably a healthy way to live. But not letting you have it if you are able to afford it and feel you want/need it is an issue.

I'd tell him you want wifi or you will be getting a job and sending the kids to childcare. Do you have a joint account from which you could pay for childcare? If not, start saving the small amount you earn for first month of childcare and go get a job asap. Wifi aside, even if he agrees to wifi I think I'd still get at least a part time job and start putting together money in case you decide you want to leave or he decides some essential item isn't necessary. You said he is an immigrant, from where?

I agree your husband is a controlling douche and you should probably leave him, but your fixation on tv/internet seems strange to me too. I was a SAHM to littles and I used very little internet and watched no TV. Kids are constant work and who has time for that? You will have even less time with two kids at home. You are lonely and isolated and married an a-hole, I get it. But Netflix is not the answer to your problems.

WETA-FM only broadcasts at 75,000 watts. Many of the DC stations are under-powered so they don't overwhelm signals in other markets (Baltimore, Philly, Richmond).
