Quite the rationalization based off fictitious selection criteria. FYI i would put my life on more people in Bethesda pay cash for college than in silver spring or Wheaton. Also paying for college is a major worry for most Einstein parents |
This makes perfect sense and I suspect the only people who will argue with this are ones with real-estate in one of the other areas looking to protect their investment and very jealous of people doing exactly this. |
We have a lovely Victorian in the Einstein zoned part of Kensington. Both our kids went to Einstein and were in the IB program so their classes were with other motivated kids. One of our kids is at an Ivy the other is at UC Berkeley. Point is this worked out great for us. This goes back to what an earlier poster wrote about this not being about simple averages based on demographic differences but real-world outcomes for individuals. |
I'd argue it makes more sense to buy in the Wheaton cluster. The area zoned for Viera Mill ES is more likely than any Einstein ES to be rezoned for Woodward. Of course it's all a guessing game at this point. |
Viers Mill |
This! And currently the bar to gain admittance to UMCP is 1250 SAT and 3.5 uw GPA, according to Naviance. |
^data for Wheaton HS |
Well the data for Einstein says that paying for college is not a factor for most of its students because very few actuall qualify let alone go. Maybe 10-15% even start a competitive college let alone have to worry about paying for 4 years considering most people who start don’t finish. Hell I would bet that satistic would be even higher if one was able to just look at Einstein kids completion rates. |

Also good advice... |
You have no idea what others do or make. Many Know in Bethesda are living at the max and not saving a lot for college and counting on financial aide. They'd rather live in an overpriced house than save for college or justify things like retirement. Not everyone needs a big fancy house. I'd rather spend the money on other things. I like being able to pay cash for nice cars and for anything else I want. You really don't know this part of Kensington very well to make that statement. It isn't a major worry for many of us. Its a big priority for most of us. We will pay cash for college and if later on we choose to go to private school we can comfortably pay for that too. How much do you have put away for college? |
We have a 3 bedroom 1940s crackerbox in Bethesda that we paid $1.5M for and are stretched so thin we can't afford college, but our kids attend bcc which is nearly as good and we couldn't be happier. |
BCC is not as great of a school as people think, most of us who went there know that. |
People in Bethesda May or May not be rich but have money, most people in silver spring aren’t and dont |
You keep telling yourself that but absolutely not true. |
