River Road speed limit change to 35 mph

A lower speed limit would not have stopped that guy from going at 110 mph when he killed that family.

Nobody has said that it would.

How many people do you want to run over? A kid is almost hit in the crosswalk every week. There’s video of a teen being hit in the crosswalk on River and do we not remember running over the 90 year old lady walking home from bowling league one night?

If you're referring to dashcam video of a woman being hit, that was at the crosswalk near McDonalds, where the speed limit has always been 35. She was looking down at her phone, but indeed it was the driver's fault for not stopping. There was no visibility because the car in the right lane had stopped, but still no excuse.

The 90 year old was crossing by Kenwood Country Club, at an intersection with a traffic light. I believe she was at fault because we never heard of charges being filed against the driver. That too has been 35mph for years.

What I don't like is when a death is the fault of the pedestrian/cyclist not following the rules, or a driver brazenly not following the rules (like driving 100mph on River) and then we all have to suffer.

Look at Little Falls Parkway by the swimming pool. A cyclist ran the stop sign on the CC Trail and was hit by a car and killed. Now because of that, they removed one lane of traffic each way, even though this incident was not the fault of the driver.

Oh. I forgot about the numerous cyclists who have been run over. But fgatcdoesnt usually happen in this stretch of road, so speed away while staring at your phone!

Remember all the whining that this caused?

Meanwhile, police recently held a sting operation aimed at catching drivers who did not stop for school buses. It came after Montgomery County police released a video of a school bus coming to a stop on River Road in Bethesda with its flashing lights and stop arm activated and most drivers on both sides of the road just kept on going.

They have used that accident as a justification for the speed limit decrease, so yes they have, at least implicitly.

The speed limit wasn’t lowered to 35 to keep idiots like that kid from doing 110.

It was lowered to idiots like you from doing 65 in a 45.

And when the cameras show up (soon, hopefully) you WILL be slowing down.

Cameras can't get there soon enough. So tired of entitled bougies in Audis acting like they own the road.

I get in the left lane, set my cruise to exactly 35, and watch the line behind me grow.

Or, I pace someone driving slow in the right lane (but usually still over 35, much to my chagrin) and block everyone the whole way to Burning Tree, where I turn off.

I work later, so I'm doing this about 7:30-7:45 most nights. Hopefully I've enraged a few of the a-hole leadfoot drivers here in this thread!!! Too bad, so sad!!!

The speed limit is now 35. Deal with it.

And if you're behind me, 35 is what you'll be doing.

What a sad and lonely life you must lead that this is how you amuse yourself. Very Sad

Well, since you aren’t as likely to run over your neighbors with your car now with the 35 mph speed limit why don’t you just branch out?
You know - what about bow & arrow? Accidentally let your dog out of the yard? Errant shot when innocently cleaning your gun? Leave a hole in your pool fence by ‘accident’?
There are so many other ways to kill your neighbors and not be found guilty if you just put some thought into it.
Staring at your phone while driving your car 50 mph is not the only way so don’t despair!

Watch and wait until you see a bicycle approaching and then open your car door!

I’m LMAO at this!!! I can imagine a whole pack of Audi and Benz drivers, trapped behind her Subaru and the minivan next to her, all doing the posted speed limit. I’d PAY to get to watch something like that!!!! She should stream it live on FB !!!!
