"It is honestly shocking how much Fox News' rhetoric about immigrants mirrors Nazi propaganda"

Stop watching cable news. The news isn't the product. You, the audience, are the product. Their mission is to get you invested enough to watch through the commercials. Useful, educational news that is a fair representation of the world around you isn't terribly effective at that. Making you scared and angry, now that packs the emotional punch necessary to keep you watching through the commercials.

So you're saying you don't watch CNN or MSNBC?

There, that's what the title ought to be. When Trump starts branding Democrats with pink donkey tattoos and herding them into ghettos, yeah, then I might believe Trump is goose-stepping on our constitution. Until then, such hysteria is nothing more than the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth of crybabies not getting their way.

It's embarrassing and pathetic.

- they're bringing disease
- they're foreign agents
- they're criminals
- they're going to take power here

It's genocidal propaganda being delivered under the guise of a news network.

This is 100% true.

Tucker Carlson echoes white supremacist talking points.

Laura Ingraham echoes white supremacist talking points.

People at rightwing hate sites think Tucker and Ingraham are on their side. That's bad.

------------

Rupert Murdoch did the same thing in the UK and Australia - use white identity politics to get votes to enrich himself. He doesn't care about how much damage he does to the country, as long as he can influence politicians and put money in his own pocket.

Meanwhile, the biggest predictor of heavy watching of Fox News is low levels of education.

In my research too, Fox News viewers scored the lowest of over 30 popular news sources (though Fox viewers did at least score better than those saying they didn't follow the news). The chart’s horizontal black lines with tick marks indicate the margins of statistical error. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a news satire, had the best-informed viewers.

The Fox News effect is a correlation. It doesn't prove that watching Fox News causes people to be ill-informed.
Causes are much trickier to establish. I will give my guesses (along with the warning that they're only guesses). The first thing to realize is that every news medium has its own audience demographics. It's no secret to advertisers that the average Fox News viewer has less formal education and income than the average New York Times reader.

Why are we allowing a foreign billionaire to brainwash 30% of America's population, especially the low-educated, to enrich himself???

Another thread has a fascinating interview with Camille Paglia, apparently a well-known LEFTIST intellectual.

Money quote:

"The mainstream media’s nonstop assault on Trump has certainly backfired by cementing his outsider status. He is basically a pragmatic deal-maker, indifferent to ideology. As with Bolsonaro in Brazil, Trump rose because of decades of failure by the political establishment to address urgent systemic problems, including corruption at high levels. Democrats must hammer out their own image and agenda and stop self-destructively insulting half the electorate by treating Trump like Satan."

Excellent quote by Paglia. Though it will never be taken to heart by her intended audience - liberals.

My family and I feel safer today than in 2015 and 2016.

Even the undocumented immigrants we know feel safer today -- at least there's more attention and support for them. Under Obama no one gave a damn, they were terrified and alone.

Must be because you are white. If you were not, you'd not feel this way since hate crime has gone up.

Also, you have more chance of being killed by a mass shooter (by a white male) than an illegal immigrant, especially if you live in a white suburb.

And as a PP stated, violent crime has been going down even during Obama years.

You are certifiably crazy.

1) I'm not white. I'd be considered brown by US stupid thinking

2) Hate crime is a very small percentage of total crime. You and I should worry more about total crime, especially violent, and less about some fabricated little category called "hate crime"

3) Yes, immigrants commit less crimes per capita than US-born citizens...but that has nothing to do with my previous comment.

4) Violent crime actually went up surprisingly and strongly in the last 2 years of Obama, breaking a long trend. And that's clear in the graph that you had to see before posting your stupid comment. Can you read a graph?

So, in the 8 years of Obama's administration, the last 2 saw an uptick in violence, while in the first two years of Trump's presidency hate crime has gone up.

You should worry more about school shootings than illegal immigrants whom the far right and Trump has branded as the boogy man.

"fabricated hate crime"?.. you are deluded at best, ignorant and stupid at worst.

+1.

If anything, it's Dems branding Republicans and trying to herd them into ghettos.

Yeah, sure. That's why the outgoing Republican administrations in WI and MI are doing all they can to strip power from their incoming, democratically elected Democrat administrations.

You are clueless.

Fascists didn't work via paperwork. They energized the mobs to intimidate opponents in the streets, and that's exactly what Dems have been doing so diligently.

The brownshirts came about because Communists kept attacking them.

You think it's better to see two thousand corpses in the streets than 127 "hate crimes."

I hope you lead a beautiful life but very very far away from any position of power or influence until you grow up.

Immigrants at the border are have numbers written on them in sharpie. Their children are still being taken from them and put into tent camps run by people the Trump Administration didn’t even bother to fingerprint. They are refusing access to these ghettos to Congreemen.

I’m not worried about myself. I may be a Democrat. But I’m also healthy and white. So I’m protected. But migrants on the border with asylum claims? They are having numbers written on them. Put in ghettos. All while Fox News (and on DCUM poster who started a thread) go into fearmongering overdrive about the diseases they bring. Yet another’s page out of the Nazi playbook.

I'm curious: how do you suggest the order for asylum processing be kept track of? Assigning everyone a number seems the most logical system, no?

Exactly. All we hear about on this site is how "horrible" Fox News is, yet liberals never admit that CNN and MSNBC are just as biased. It's ridiculous. I watch and read all news sources with a big grain of salt.

I love how self-centered you sound. No one knows who you are. No one can see you.

But are you Jewish, and immigrant or a minority? Yes, their words suggest they’d like you gone or as part of a permanent underclass. If you’re that Latino on here I keep saying this to, I’ll say it again: if you’re descended from Central or South America, you are not white to these white supremacists and you never will be.

I'm a white immigrant married to a brown immigrant. We feel perfectly fine in the U.S. - because we came here legally and with enough money and understanding of the social structures of the country. We do not approve of those who try to enter illegally.

“It doesn’t f*cking matter,” Fields said. “She’s a communist.”

“Stop talking like that,” his mother said.

“It isn’t up for questioning,” Fields said. “She’s the enemy, mother.”

James Fields told his mom it "doesn’t f*cking matter" Heather Heyer died in Charlottesville

The Nazis probably killed my 89-year-old great-great-grandmother by shooting her and dumping her in a pit.

I agree.

I want to start a thread with a title like, "Dear Immigrants: I'm sorry about the haters," but I'm afraid the haters would drown the thread in hate posts.

Yeah. Maybe we should come up with a system to keep the numbers from coming off. How about tattoos?

If the brown shirt fits...

More seriously: You're just bullying that poster by calling the poster crazy, not refuting the poster's argument.

You're probably not like the German Nazis, but I'd like to see someone who knows a lot about other, lower-intensity fascist societies compare us with those. Your probably putting us somewhere on the spectrum.
