I will have to ask our coach to consider playing in these VA tournaments instead of the pathetic BSC tournament. The only thing that’s “premier” for the BSC tournament is in the name. |
There's no "instead of". Both of those are spring tournaments. |
A clear example of groups who RUIN the sport.
BSC are a group of thieves! Trump would be proud. |
A clear example of posters that massively over-exaggerates things. |
I have been going to Bethesda Premier for five years. There fields are the worse except for the fields used for the MD President's Cup. The reality is that the weather has played havoc with tournaments. There was major Columbia tournament cancelled in March because snow was still on the fields. Sate Cup was pushed back due to the rain and Bethesda's converted fields this past weekend were horrible because of the rain. You can't control the weather but Bethesda needs to scale back if they can't provide quality fields. Some of the fields at Muldoons and the Polo fields were dangerous. There were puddles on the fields and weak turf. I hope no one was injured but if I am hesitant to attend next year if the games are at the same locations.
I don't know what the rationale was for including so many teams but development was not a major part of the discussion. |
GO SOUTH FOLKS......Richmond's Cap Fall Classic and CASL are solid tournaments. |
We played all our games on county turf fields for the tournament |
A total money grab. when you have so many divisions within an age group it is very obvious.
|
WAGs League merged with NCSL but the WAGs Tournament still exists. |
Actually, in two of them, only first day cancelled, announced the morning of the first day. Out of towners already here and had to stay. Fields were not’. Good shape on the days games were played. |
Our coach chose these ‘instead’—so we did not do a Nov tournament (we did do other earlier fall ones though) and will do multiple tournaments in March at start of spring season. We do not have an unlimited budget for tournaments so we consider on an annual basis...this year we did Early Falls, decided to forgo November, and then will have multiple in March/April.... |
Tournaments have nothing to do with development. They are huge fundraising events for the hosting clubs. That's it. The motivation to provide a good experience is only because it's a competitive market. With the sheer number of tournaments being offered now, teams have many options. But it is all about making money, and there's nothing wrong with that. The clubs are non-profits, so after paying the operating expenses (including sometimes professional tournament directors), they have to pour that $$ back into the clubs. Where does it go? Some goes for training and equipment, which offsets costs for the players. A lot of it also goes into field improvement, including providing funding for more turf fields, many of which have been paid for by public-private partnerships between soccer clubs and local governments. It would take a lot of bake sales and car washes to come close to the amount of money that can be raised from a tournament with hundreds of teams playing $900-1200 each. |
And yet Bethesda has been having this tournament at Muldoon's for years. Exactly what field improvements have been made form the money? |
We enjoyed the Columbia Fall Classic for boys this past weekend - fields were adequate at Western Regional Park, not too far away. |
Can you not bring freaking Trump into youth soccer? Goddamnit, can you just not? |
