This is not slanderous or a joke, it's the truth. Brad Roos is claiming he can't afford to refund the U16-19 boys teams. The Soccerplex closed their facility so we find it impossible to believe they kept the $150K facility rental, plus REFS weren't paid. U9-U15 age groups played so they made that money plus the hotel kick back from MOCO sports. This is a long running annual event and they've netted at least hundreds of thousands. Again how could an event this Size not purchase insurance, it's completely irresponsible and negligent, no other, national soccer showcase has done anything like this. RETURN ALL the Teams money BRAD ROOS! |
I’d like to see an official notice about this. I assume Brad emailed the teams about it, so please post it. |
There is no Official notice. Coaches/ team Managers have been emailing / calling TD Brad Roos and he's ignoring all. We know that he actually called two other soccer TD and asked what he should do because he is being bombarded with refund requests and didn't have event insurance. This is negligence and greed.

Who wants to pay me for Brad’s cell phone # ? |
“We know?” If this is as bad as you make it to be, there must be some form of communication from clubs to parents, or emails or something. Forgive me if I hold my judgement until I see something that looks less like speculation. |
Brad just bought a new Tesla and wanted to thank you all for your contributions. |
Do we know if the soccer facilities (SoccerPlex, etc.) that Bethesda rented refunded the money to Bethesda? |
"Pay For Play" has really watered down our quality on the National and Pro levels.

They are probably relying on a strict reading of the rules of the tournament saying they are not responsible for any expenses. Not cool but they’ll argue that’s what teams agreed to.
1. GENERAL RULES Unless modified by this set of rules, all games shall be played in accordance with the most current F.I.F.A. rules. All decisions of the referee are final and binding. The Tournament Committee, the Bethesda Soccer Club, and the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by any team or club if the tournament is canceled in whole or part. Any team that cancels their registration for the tournament before acceptances are sent out will receive a full refund if a written notice has been received by the Bethesda Soccer Club. Any team that cancels after acceptances have been sent out will not receive any refund of fees under any circumstances. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to decide on all matters pertaining to the tournament and its judgment is final. Any team that disregards any decision by the Tournament Committee (including the inclement weather policy) will be automatically dropped from the tournament and forfeit all remaining games. First place trophies will be awarded to winners in the U9 through U15 age groups. Runner-up teams in divisions of six or more teams will receive second place trophies in the U9 through U15 age groups. |
What did they do with all those trophies this year... throw them out? |
I'm guessing they kept them for next year, a little paint turns an 8 into 9 pretty easily. ![]() |
So there are now Flickr galleries from this years Girls' and Boys' weekends. I tried to find some snaps that really showed the field conditions over at Summer Hill and Muldoons. It may be reasonable to expect more shots of play on turf fields. (:
Here's one example of what would have been a "played-on" surface had it not been for the weather: https://www.flickr.com/photos/155694130@N07/45819519521/in/album-72157697581763700/ |
Look, I really don’t see what the big deal. At least they have fields. I know plenty of herds who could comfortably graze on that pasture. |
My goodness people, get over it.

For a little perspective, I think eleven or so fields were slated for the space shown in that photo. If I recall correctly, only two or three of the original eleven were usable for the Girls' weekend. If you scan through enough photos, you might get a better view of some fields (or maybe some mud on player uniforms). The Flickr galleries were posted on the main tournament website, so I don't think these are from some random person just putting up pictures.
Some teams only ended up playing two games that weekend due to field conditions. I think everyone was going to get three games, with a the possibility of a fourth, final match. |
