Bethesda Premier Cup - What a joke

No dog in this fight, but I'd be mad as well and not letting it go.
Too many tournament organizers get greedy, take the cash, but don't deliver and then they can't understand why people are upset.

The tournaments need to be partnerships --- if no clubs attend, then there is no tournament.

To add insult to injury they put together a few games for teams that had already traveled / flown in for the event but failed to notify any college coaches that these games were going to be played. The age group coordinators were completely blindsided by the cancellation when it rolled out. Some coaches made calls to local colleges to get someone there to watch. They are not answering email inquiries directly and only send out generic emails that they did the best they could. The latest bone they are throwing is a 300 credit do next year. Does nothing for older teams that will age out and to cancel older College age 11v11 games before they cancel the 2004s, 2005s, 2006s was a completely asinine move.

Don't forget to come back next week.

It does suck. Unfortunately as a collective we don’t care about older players as much as we do the younger ones, because there’s not as much money in it. Even though we should. Glad our boys didn’t go to this tournament and were still able to play. But all of this was over a month ago, this isn’t exactly the best medium where you can do anything about it.

Same experience for our club - Paid $1350 and got NO REFUND even though we didn't play a single game. Pretty sure our club is boycotting this event CLUB WIDE next year - outrageous. These guys are thieves.

All U16-19 teams received this email a month later on 12/21. A $300 credit from $1385 toward next year is insulting. Wouldn't be surprised if they purchase insurance they will increase their events fee.

Dear 2018 Boys Tournament Teams,

We appreciate your patience during and following the 2018 Premier Cup. As a follow-up to our previous correspondence regarding your acceptance next year, your team will be receiving a $300 credit towards your registration fee for the 2019 Bethesda Premier Cup which will be applied upon receiving your team's application to the tournament.
We continue to evaluate this past year's tournament and will be looking into additional options for next year which could include providing insurance for the team application fees.
Again, we thank you for supporting this 35 year tradition and we look forward to seeing you next year!

Exactly.. they'll purchase event insurance & increase fee. In the past, Jeff Cup & EDP Showcase both had to cancel due to snow, heavy rain etc, they carry insurance and their team fee is a little less than Bethesda's current without insurance.

ALL Past BETHESDA Cup teams should check this out:

I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out because we have been approached by several clubs in the area to start a new premier level event in the DC Metro area in November, The Capital Cup. Our boys and girls weekends will being going head to head against another high level tournament the same weekend.

We believe that our event, although new in 2019, will be more conducive to clubs and soccer families then our competition. For example:
The Capital Cup, as like most of our events managed by Elite Tournaments, be covered by full tournament cancellation insurance. This means that if even 1 game is cancelled because of weather, your teams will receive part of your application fee back. If the event is cancelled in full you will get close to, if not all, a full refund.
If your team is from outside of the DC Metro area and needs to stay in a hotel, the Capital Cup carries hotel cancellation insurance through the hotel booking agency that will cover your stay even if you already checked into the hotel. All cancelations and contacting of the hotels will be done by the tournament, you and your parents don’t have to worry about thing with hotels with tournament cancelations.
Also, we are ensuring that every single game will be played on turf fields. This means the only way a game should be cancelled is if we have lightning or the fields are covered in snow.
Elite Tournaments will have direct communication with all teams. We are a company with full time staff that specializes in event management and therefore and we do not rely on parent volunteers. Teams that play in the 2019 Capital Cup will not need to supply field marshals, this is a job that we, at Elite Tournaments, cover.
Our entry fees are competitive to other tournaments in the DC Metro area, and we work hard to deconflict as many coaching conflicts as possible.

Elite Tournaments wants to give teams peace of mind when traveling and playing in our events by giving them the best experience possible. We want you to only worry about is coaching your team.

Below you will find the links to the Capital Cup’s website and additional information. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. If you are interested, let me know and if we can add your club to the already growing list that have already committed.

Love it. This is how the free market is supposed to work.

Elite Tournament’s only function is to do tournaments so they have to be better than Soccer Clubs that does it as a part time function.

They should take over all the local tournaments of BSC and other clubs continues to falter.

They should get email addresses for all Bethesda Tournment teams and email blast them. LOL

The flip side of all that is that when non-profit youth clubs host tournaments the profit goes into their operating expenses to fund staff, training, equipment, field improvements, etc.,... all of which offsets costs for the players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Elite Tournaments is just a private company, doesn't that mean that their tournament profits are just that -- profits?
Anonymous
I agree. Elite is a for profit organization.

I don’t think all Clubs do Tournaments, though.
