Bethesda Premier Cup - What a joke

For older AGs, yes. But the older AGs also get the better fields. I'm not a defender of the club or the tournament, but the tournament does have a pretty good college recruiting presence so the bang for the buck in terms of exposure may be "worth it" for some older teams. The younger teams pay $800-$1000 for a bad experience on terrible fields, so it is hard for me to understand any reason to do that other than collecting/maximizing Got Soccer points (and for ULittle, why?).

I'm PP above who said the club needs to figure out its prioritize and realign the tournament, and this illustrates that point.

Also, to echo something someone said earlier on this thread or the other one, I do feel bad for all the club parents who volunteer so much time and energy for a tournament that leaves so many people feeling ripped off. The problems with the tournament are not a reflection of their efforts at all.

Does it really though? I just looked through the college coach list for the girls and don't see a lot of powerhouse schools on it.

My comment was on volume rather than the level of the schools. You are right that most of the big guys aren't there. Many of the schools are mid- or lower-level and don't have the same recruiting budget as the big schools so big tournaments where the recruiters also can get a lot of bang for their buck are good opportunities for both sides. If you are looking to be recruited by the powerhouses, that is a different kettle of fish and a different strategy.

Muldoons is not fit for purpose full stop. It is an ankle injury haven and when it's wet...forget about it.

A rolling soccer ball should not bounce up like an American football on an onside kick. It does that at Muldoons.

Does it matter? Your kid's team would still loose if this is a major factor.

The premiere girls lacrosse tournaments have been cancelled in all or part the past three weeks, each was sponsored by a different entity and involved a large number of out of state teams, and college coaches. Bethesda soccer may be horrible, but the weather has caused havoc to more than just their tournament this month.

But you said it yourself...those tournaments were cancelled.
If I was a local, I’d rather play as much as possible, even if it’s a day or two.
If I’m from out of town, I’d rather the Tournament was cancelled.
They should think long and hard about what to do this coming weekend if the forcast is correct.

I agree with this comment. We are local for Bethesda but if two of three games will be canceled, they need to cancel the whole thing so that the out of state people don't incur the expense. This fiasco was avoidable!

Talk about comparing apples to oranges...or candy bars to soccer tournaments.
I’ve been in youth soccer a long time, and when I go to a tournament, I hope for the best and expect the worst. Normally you end up in the middle.
Lots of things wrong with this tourney, some preventable, some not.
Some things worth complaining about, some not.

Snow now projected for Montgomery County on Thursday (<0.5 inches).

If I was BSC I'd at the very least send a heads up to out of state teams to alert them to the potential for problems. I think if they did that then it was on the teams whether to come or not.

Poolesville forecast is 100% of rain tonight, with an inch expected, 100% chance of rain/snow/ice on Thursday with an inch expected, and then a 60% chance of rain on Friday.

If the forecast for tonight and Thursday is accurate (2 inches of accumulation), then there is no chance the fields at Muldoons/Summer Hill will be playable, and I'd be surprised if SoccerPlex's grass fields would all be playable.

One would hope the tournament director learns his lessons from this weekend and gets in front of this before all of the non-DMV teams travel down to DC.

The powerhouse schools mainly go to the major ECNL tournaments.

We're talking U13s? Come on...we're really getting nit-picky here.

Muldoons has some fields that are on a noticeable incline so when you are going one way you have a ton of unexpected speed, and when you kick the ball the other way, it rolls 'uphill'. Dumb.

Yeah, I’m sure BSC will continue to love to collect your $$.

For younger ages stick with the local VA tournaments who tend to do a nice job even if they don't have the same name cache as a tournament (i.e. Arlington, McLean etc).

They operate on nice fields (many turf, and/or maintained grass), and the younger crowd is the primary focus vs. getting gross fields that they can't put older kids on.

No one is arguing that. Muldoon sucks. Summerhill sucks.
Portable goals? Slightly smaller fields?
Fine with me.
