I do not know how old she is, but in this life people change their mind about stuff all the time.

It sucks in certain situations such as yours -
And like another poster stated, there is no room for negotiation here.

Sadly the ONLY option here would be to break it off sooner rather than later.

Well, that's a direct answer so that's good.

Then again, American culture is to save your money and get long term care insurance and not be a burden on your adult children.

They should each explain themselves, not do this face value stuff. The explanation will drive home their differences, which will help facilitate the break-up. Right OP?
