Is it time to ban heading in women's soccer? (or in soccer all together?)

You can also google how to purchase some bubble wrap, or how to find a sport for your child other than soccer.

That's funny, because there are some real schmucks here too.

Yeah, they keep obsessing over other people's children playing soccer.

You need to take your little agenda somewhere else. You won't get traction here.

I'm satisfied that a concussion headband solves my concerns. You won't change soccer, but you will continue to make a fool of yourself here.

I've also met her in CA as well. She seemed nice but what does it have anything to do with the issue above. Dave Duerson was a very vibrant young man before he killed himself.

You've been given the answer over and over again. Concussion head band. You just refuse to hear it for some OCD reason. It works. I don't know why you are still debating this, but you sound like a broken record.

Concussions, and CTE, are long term issues. No one has any idea if they work long term.
I'm sure there were people 10 years ago saying football helmets work too.

So you’re saying if you knew what you know today, you would not have your child wear a football helmet? BTW, comparing football to soccer is stupid. Football is an extreme contact sport. You are probably the type of parent that would not have your child wear shin guards too unless it was required, claiming it doesn’t prevent injuries. LOL

Anonymous wrote:Why is heading the ball essential? I can see incidental head contact with the ball as ok, but purposely heading it could be 'outlawed.' Besides it could make for more 'acting' opportunities!

Because if you can't use your hands, your head is the next best way to gain control of the ball when it's in the air. Without it, a lot less goals would be scored.

With out there would be more emphasis on foot skills and touch. Watching the game without heading is much more enjoyable.

Anyone who says that never played, nor has any real grasp of what a good soccer game looks like.

Maybe the perspective on what a good soccer game looks like needs to change.

"It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours." said Harry Truman.

Knowing what I know today about concussions, CTE and PED, I am steering my kids away from any physical contact sports. It is not worth the risk but that's just me.

That's the kind of ridiculous response I'd expect from someone ending their "argument" with "LOL".
People used to think that wearing football helmets made football safe to play. It clearly doesn't.
Now people here swear that headbands make soccer safe to play. Which may or may not be true.

As someone that played through college, I'd have no problem changing the laws right now to ban heading outside of the penalty box....it would barely change the game.

The headbands make it safer. Why are people opposed to them?

Because a poster on here is obsessed. She's like those anti-vaccine nut jobs running around.

Omg, then why in the world are you here? On a soccer forum? Soccer is and always has been a contact sport. Go find a place to be with other like minded souls. Today, there truly is something for everyone. But soccer is NOT for you. Clearly

+1000, that's hilarious! And perfect! So on point...these people contradict themselves. They claim a fear of concussions and won't even use the tools available to prevent them. *yawn*

DP - nitpick here, soccer like basketball is a non-contact sport with incidental contact and some bumping. If taking another player down were legal in soccer, then it would be a contact sport. Football, hockey, rugby, ... those are contact sports.

"Let there be no misunderstanding: Soccer is a contact sport."

Clearly, we have at least one - possibly more - trollers on here. They don't like soccer, their kids don't play it, but they troll soccer forums to keep feeding concussion debates.

Smh, either put a concussion head band on your child or choose another sport.

Actually it is. It's not as full contact as the others you mentioned, but like a slide tackle necessitates contact. You have to make contact with the ball first, but you are not expected to ONLY make contact with the ball.
