Is it time to ban heading in women's soccer? (or in soccer all together?)

Some doctors smoke. What's your point?

That your comment about 10 neurologists is anecdotal. Some people won't vaccinate their kids either but i don't listen to those idiots either.

There are multiple posters here, I’m the one who posted the smoking comment but not the ten neuroscientists thing. But for the record, your anecdotal evidence is no more of less valid than that poster’s.

That's my point. The OP listed those 10 neurologists as if it were evidence. It's not, and no more valid than neurologists who disagree.

It's ALL anecdotal and meaningless.

Yeah, completely..."This study confirms that there are changes in the tissue of women's brains after these repetitive hits from the soccer ball that are different from men in a similar situation."

Concussion headband.

Why is heading the ball essential? I can see incidental head contact with the ball as ok, but purposely heading it could be 'outlawed.' Besides it could make for more 'acting' opportunities!

Stop playing sports, safest place is in a bubble. Lets look at all the female players that are > 50 years old and study them. If there aren't any former players that show evidence, then play on.

Heck, make 'em all wear motorcycle helmets. Safety first!

Hasn't helped the NFL.

Nature of the sport, they are suppose to have contact on the head every play. No so in soccer, in fact toss a soccer ball at my head any day versus a 300 lbs lineman running full speed with a steel facemask. Helmet or no helmet, youre going to feel it.

Concussion headbands should be required.

+1 How would the game suffer if intentional heading were banned?

Not the same. Don't be asinine. And I believe in heading the ball. I played and still play, as do my kids.

There's nothing wrong with wearing something that effectively signifianctly reduces the risk of concussions.

We can keep heading as the natural part of the sport it is without ridiculing players for protecting themselves. Shin guards weren't always part of soccer, but we all got used to it.

Amen! 52 and still out there, heading balls.

You could also just change it to say heading is only allowed within the penalty box.
That would keep heading, and headed goals in the game, while reducing heading in general.

No one is at greater risk of injury than gks. Where are their champions? Instead, we are just obsessing over heading the ball.

Maybe we should remove kicking next. After all, look what happened to this poor fellow in a game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7nPsC6p9Yc

I say we ban kicking it too. Just in case...
