My 14 yo daughter has been sexting

Um.. what?? LOL at the person who had sex constantly in 7th grade - that is **not normal**. People having sex in Middle School is not normal. I literally did not know a single person who did this when I was that age back in the 90s.

^^ There were 2 or 3 known "long term couples" in my MS who were having sex. 8th grade & 9th grade. Plus the girl who had sex with everyone.

No one is saying it doesn't happen, but it is not normal. 2, 3, even a dozen kids out of hundreds having sex doesn't make it normal, PPs.

I thought generally Middle school was 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. 9th grade is High School and fair game. Plus, HUGE difference between a 7th grader having regular sex and a 9th grader experimenting. Good lord...

My two best friends and I graduated HS in 1988 as virgins. We were popular, athletic, pretty and smart. We had some sexual experience in HS, but not inter purse. Nothing in MS!!

What a stupid comment. You and OP can't keep your teen from having sex. This is a lot safer than actual intercourse. The only thing OP should do is make sure the recipient is not an adult. Other than that she should leave it alone and make sure her daughter has access to birth control, understands how to use it, an understands consent and that she never has to have sex if she doesn't' want to. It's stupid to try and control your teen's sexuality so much.

Your use of the word stupid diminishes what could have been a reasonable post.

14 year olds should not send nude pictures under any circumstance. It is illegal and has consequences which last a lifetime.

Who said anything about sending nude picks? But even with that why should she be punished for sending the pictures to another 14 yo who will be seeing her nude anyway if they have sex?
If the pictures fall into the hands of people to have them for ill or perverse use they should be punished.

NP. It doesn't matter whether the sender "should" be punished (for the record, I agree, no); as the current laws are written she *could* be, and that *would* have severe consequences which it makes sense for a parent to want to prevent.

Personally, I do not have a problem with teens sexting other teens - in theory. The only reason I as a parent discourage it at all is the legal risk (which I personally disagree with, but that doesn't change the facts).

DP. There were a few pregnant kids at my middle school in the 80's.

is sexting worse than blowing the football team or having a train ran on you by the lax team?
