My 14 yo daughter has been sexting

Anonymous
I am at a loss as what to do.
This is not the first time she was caught. I had doubts so I replaced her iphone with a watered down version of android phone. A few weeks later she started using ipad/ipod without our permission. I removed all iOS devices from our home and then she asked her friend for her spare old iphone without our knowledge/permission and was using that to facetime.
We failed at parenting her.

I haven't told this to my husband as he will be really heartbroken.
I maybe sounding overly dramatic but I am so disappointed. Just wanted to get this off my chest.

Who is she sexting with?

I'm sorry op. My kids are younger, but I'm dreading this age. Can you do some sort of lockdown at the wifi level? Is it just with one boy or more?

she can't use an old iphone without being on someone's plan. Plans need to be paid for, and have user agreements. Whose paying for her plan?

Oh, and show her this:

Why does she still have a phone?

She says it's a 14 yo boy from some other HS. In the past I saw inappropriate text exchanges between her and someone in Florida that I am pretty sure she had never met, so it could be a teenager or a 50 yo person.

Long ago I stopped trusting anything that comes out of her mouth.

Oh, and show her this:

She is either using her SIM card from her android phone or connecting to wifi just like an ipod would. I haven't looked thoroughly into it yet as I found out just two days ago.

Thanks for the article. I am gathering some news stories about laws regarding sexting as well as dangers associated with this behavior. Not sure though if it will help her understand.

You can trust nothing out of her mouth, OP.
She needs drastic measures at this point.
Meet with her teachers to find out how she's doing
(and behaving) in school.

Thanks.
Not all kids are same. My other two are doing great so far and they are one and two year younger than the sexting teen. However, going forward, I will be extra vigilant with them as well.

She does not need a phone. Its on you if she has done it before and she still has acces. If you can’t have think of her not having a phone, get her a dumb phone(voice only) with limited minutes. There you are done with it.

Your mistake is trying to make her understand. Teens are stupid and no logic will reach her. Read Yes Your Teen is Crazy.

She needs protection from herself. Do whatever you have to do to figure out why she is seeking this type of attention. Get some therapy.

My niece got preyed upon by a 30 something year old person in Canada who tried to.convince her she was transgendered and should come to Canada to live with him/her and get a sex change.

Fortunately she came to her senses on her own.

Report the person OP. They are most likely not a kid but a predator adult posing as a kid and producing child porno or worse
