Why is she so important to the deal? |

I find this whole story deeply chilling. Not only because these children have been harmed for life--sadly, stories of child victims of abuse are not, as some here point out, uncommon in settings like schools and camps. Instead, what I find so upsetting is how many adults abdicated any kind of responsibility for protecting kids after pursuing roles as educators. Why were these kids put back into a classroom with this man, even after the first investigation didn't turn up sufficient evidence?? Wouldn't any reasonable administrator think it made sense to put them in a different one after there was clearly _something_ awry?
What's more, the whole point of charter schools is that they operate outside the regular system, supposedly with flexibility to hire and fire at will. Retaining abusive teachers is something frequently blamed on teachers unions, though this school faced no such constraint. Instead, because it has to maintain its image to attract families, it appears they circled the wagons and protected this guy. As for those saying it's now safer than ever since lightning won't strike twice, I'd be concerned that the board and any other administrators would be even _more_ inclined to hush up any bad behavior lest it cause more bad PR. There is a lot of harmful stuff that can happen in a school short of sexual abuse--verbally abusive teachers, inadequate special education, you name it. What's to give any family there confidence that the school will be transparent about other issues that arise? |
Well by all means deals over kids. Sounds like a wonderful and safe place for children!! This lawsuit will kill the school— thankfully. The teachers will find new jobs and the kids will find new schools. The Board should be gone too. JFYI. What they have done is disgusting. The fact that any of them agree to have their name and picture on the website is gross. Just plain gross. When you know of a problem— which they knew in Feb you correct it. They did nothing. |
This is such a sick response. A school is not just the administration. A lot of good people, good teachers and good kids are in this school. And are working hard on it. This whole thread is a lot of nonsense. I’m sorry you feel personally hurt by this situation but wishing a school to crash and burn is just sad. |
Troll score: 2. The people responsible have been terminated or are being forced to resign. I agree that Diane should be fired, but she will be gone soon enough. Hopefully the Board will be slowly replaced over the next couple years. The lawsuit will not kill the school. The insurance carrier will settle with the parents. LAMB is a strong school with excellent and committed teachers. The parents are working hard to support the families affected while still moving forward. Despite what this terrible man did, LAMB will not be ripped apart. He will not win. |

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I find so many posts on this thread so deeply problematic. All of this rah-rah-we-are-such-a-strong-community is such a slap in the face to the victims and their families. Nobody is winning here. |
| You do know that LAMB is party to this lawsuit. There will be others. They will be lucky to survive. The weight and cost of the lawsuit is something a school can’t withstand much less a public/charter school. Any and all funds going to defend this? Yeah not going to be workable. |
Just stop talking. |
I am also a survivor of sexual violence. Apparently that gives someone more credibility for their opinions? If you knew anything about LAMB, you would know that many of the victims’ families are also deeply supportive of the school, the community and the teachers. It’s why they’re still there. |
what makes you think the school's insurance policy will cover willful negligence? Or that the claims won't exceed the policy? Or that the parents will settle at all? or that the school will be able to afford insurance going forward? |
you make it sound like some kind of cult. not really convincing me. |
Different poster- none of us cares what you think. |
I’m not interested in convincing some random troll of anything. But there are families and teachers who do not appreciate random trolls trashing their school. |
These are good points. Can a charter school - as a nonprofit - declare bankruptcy? |
