Are you that bad at research? found here: http://www.trackercorp.com/everify-legislation-map.php So what you're saying basically already happens. Explain again how Gillespie will pull up the welcome mat. |
^^^ Also, isn't forcing companies to use e-verify one of those job killing, costly regulations you people are always prattling on about? |
I teach computer science at a college in Southern California. Last semester I attempted to recruit my best student, a Vietnamese man as a computer science major. "I'm majoring in accounting." he told me. "I have my green card and I don't want to compete with all the H-1B visa holders majoring in CS." |
shutdown the herndon day worker pickup by 7/11. easy to do States and localities bear the primary responsibility for defining and prosecuting crimes. But beyond enforcing the laws or ordinances of their state or locality, state and local officials may also have the authority to enforce some federal laws, especially criminal laws. Immigration law provides for both criminal punishments (e.g., alien smuggling, which is prosecuted in the courts) and civil violations (e.g., lack of legal status, which may lead to removal through a separate administrative system). If you really think a gov has no impact, you are clueless mr Z! |
"Notwithstanding any other provision of law and reaffirming the existing inherent authority of States, law enforcement personnel of a State or a political subdivision of a State have the inherent authority of a sovereign entity to apprehend, arrest, detain, or transfer to Federal custody aliens in the United States (including the transportation of such aliens across State lines to detention centers), in the enforcement of the immigration laws of the United States. This State authority has never been displaced or preempted by Congress."
Nov. 20, 2003 - Jeff Sessions |
Um, immigration is the federal government's jurisdiction and it's a civil, not criminal, issue. This is an issue that can only be truly addressed at the the federal level. |
What does that have to do with e verify and undocumented immigrants? H-1B visa holders are here legally (hence being identified as VISA HOLDERS). I don't totally agree with the visas and believe (as a strong dem supporter) that it undercuts the wages of highly skilled American workers, but the issuance of those visas is part of a federal program, not something controlled by the state of Virginia. Now, if states said they would stop giving tax abatement and other breaks to corporations who use those visas that would be different, but nobody has the balls to do that because every state is trying to undercut each other for these businesses to choose them. |
It's just bizarre to say you are voting for gillespie bcs of h1-b. It's not an issue in any way for VA gov and in fact I bet if you want back thru his history you'd find he lobbied for increased h1-b. |
what Democrat has pushed for lowering H1B limits or eliminating H1B? name one |
Rep. Bill Pascrell. From 2016: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3094126/it-careers/after-12-years-seeking-h-1b-reform-rep-pascrell-tries-again.html But AGAIN, this is completely irrelevant to the Virginia governor's race. |
Appreciate the pp who keeps trying to point out that immigration is not a state issue. Unfortunately, like so many other issues, facts don’t matter to the voters who would vote for Trump and this new version of Gillespie. Sad state of affairs since our country relies on an informed electorate but so many vote on conspiracy theories and hate/fear instead. |
Have you seen the list of crazy bills that McAuliffe vetoed? Are you saying Gillespie would veto them, too? |
we want more Democrats, more chain migration. The visa lottery has triggered a hidden wave of chain migration, and has delivered almost 5 million foreign nationals to the United States since 1994, says a new analysis. New research by the Center for Immigration Studies reveals the enormous chain-migration impact of the visa lottery program, where 50,000 visas every year are given to foreign nationals from a multitude of countries. The countries include those with terrorist problems, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Yemen, and Uzbekistan. Foreign nationals from eligible countries can win the visa lottery if they have a high-school degree and two years of work experience. Once they win the green cards to permanently stay in the United States, the migrants can bring in their spouses and minor children. Each arrival can get citizenship in five years, and then begin choosing members of their extended family — including parents, siblings and their children — to also become U.S. residents and citizens, regardless of their character, education, ideology or security risks. This expanding, unscreened immigration system is known as “chain migration,” and it has more than doubled U.S. immigration rates during since the 1980s. |
Virginia will turn into another North Carolina if Gillespie is elected. |
18:24, wonder which alt-right site you lifted this screed from? Also, this is a Virginia election, not federal!! |
