| Does anyone know where I can buy a real old fashioned German Chocolate Cake? All the ones I've seen in stores in Northern Virginia have dark fudgy chocolate cake and I believe the cake is supposed to be a lighter color and have a slight coffee flavor, not so chocolatey. I believe the recipe calls for buttermilk too. I can't find one like that. |
The Amish Market in Annapolis has one that I think is prety traditional, so maybe look for an Amish market near you. |
This sounds delicious (and the imagery is lovely). Would you mind sharing the recipe? |
| Guava cake from King's Hawaiian bakery in Torrance, CA and the coconut cake from Kitchenette in New York City. |
| Cannoli/Rum cake from an Italian bakery in the North End in Boston. |
I have had two cakes from there. One was delicious. The other tasted like it had cough syrup dumped on it. |
| The birthday cake my mom made every year. Yellow cake with homemade chocolate frosting. Tastes like home. |
| Jenny Cakes |
Dude, are you the owner? Jenny Cakes is the worst cake I've ever eaten. I live nearby and love cake so I keep trying it, but i am always so disappointed. Thor yellow cake has the taste and consistency of cornbread. |
Keep in mind it is "German" as in "german's (brand of) chocolate. Using a different chocolate would inevitably give you a different color and flavor. None of which likely would be bad. |
