Friends from College - Netflix

Sam looks older because she was a senior when Lisa was a freshman - she calls her "Froshy". I agree she looks much older, but that's at least part of an explanation.

I also just don't understand why Sam and Ethan didn't just get married? I was hoping they would explain that. Only thing I can think of is that Lisa terminated a pregnancy in college maybe that's why Lisa and Ethan got married, they felt trapped together? I can actually see how Sam and Ethan have carried on this affair - I ended up marrying my college FWB but I can see how you'd never really "get over" that person (not that I condone cheating, but I get it...).

John is also on Grey's Anatomy and I think he's a great actor!

Also agree with Marianne - I like the character and think she has her funny moments, but she doesn't really add anything to the show. And Nick's teeth are hard to look at, I also feel bad for his character by the end of season 2.

Sam and Ethan never got married because they never had a relationship. They hooked up, they did a lot of wishing and imagining, but that's all it was, it was fantasy. Didn't you have any relationships like this in college? If you didn't, you missed out. The difference is most people are able to realize it's fun, it's fantasy and don't wreck their adult relationships over them.

I have an ongoing quibble with the casting in terms of the actors' ages. Colbie Smulders and the actress who plays Marianne look (and probably are) 5-10 years younger than the actress who plays Sam (who is beautiful but looks like she's in her 40's). The characters are supposed to be in their early 40's (although I think Colbie Smulders's character is supposed to be 2 or 3 years younger)-the male actors and the actress who plays Sam look that age but Colbie and the actress who plays Marianne look significantly younger.

Another thing I think is odd is that the actor who plays Nick (Nat Faxon) has crooked teeth. Nick is supposed to be a trust fund baby-there is no way that someone that wealthy would have teeth like that. It's not a reflection on Nat Faxon-I think he's a good actor and that he does a great job with the part-it just doesn't make sense in terms of the character.

I thought the same every time there was a close up of him and I noticed his teeth. I notice his teeth a lot, it's so ugly. It would have been distracting even if he had been cast as a poor character, but cast as a trust fund kid? Simply POOR CASTING!!! It really bugs me.

I'm the PP you're quoting. I did have that relationship in college - and then we "tried" to be friends but hooked up again 2 years later and married 2 years after that!

I liked season 1 but found the characters so selfish that it was upsetting...but I loved season 2. I find that I laugh out loud at something almost every episode, which doesn't happen with most shows.

Not only is Nick's teeth crooked, it's yellow.

Ethan is a really shitty character. He leaves Sam AT THE AIRPORT WAITING for hours. He could have changed his mind, but how long does it take to text Sam. He did it before too, at that hotel where Sam was waiting and later pretended she never was there. Ethan does this sh*t. I really dislike the character, to the point I'm starting to dislike the actor (saw him in some TV commercial and cringed).
His ridiculous Party Ethan character, him bullying his friend the agent into not giving him credit for the books until he himself was fed up with the YA series and was willing to walk away anyway. Remember that scene where he sounds incredulous when the book agents fiance first brought it up over lunch? He didn't even show guilt.

Totally agree about Nick (Nat Faxon)!! I love his acting, but I'm sorry - when he's on screen, all I can see is his mouthful of crooked teeth. I get that he probably never fixed them because it was something that made him unique, but they are SO distracting.

I also love Billy Eichner and was dying when he sang to Fred Savage at their wedding. Cringe!! I think Fred Savage is hilarious in this too.

I also love the music at the beginning and end of each episode - brings me right back to my emo college years!

This is SO distracting to me.

I loved season 1 and thought season 2 was severely dumbed down. Oh well.

I do suspect that the people who love this show all went to boarding school and/or an Ivy or New England SLAC. The friend group dynamics just feel so deeply rooted in that particular culture. (Which makes sense, since the creators were boarding school kids and Ivy students too.)

I agree, he's the character that became even more annoying (hard to believe that was possible) in season 2. Hard to understand what anyone would see in him.

+1
And I love the opening credits when all we see is their hands and a table full of food - the different themes give a hint as to what the episode is about. Clever.

I love this show and attended public school my entire life, including college. The group reminds me of my friend group in high school - coed, lots of pairing up between friends, etc.

Why are people so confused about Sam looking older? People age differently.
