So glad it's back! Loved season 1. And bonus, DH also does. Two episodes in to season 2, so far so good. |
Loving it. Fred Savage is so funny - loved the engagement party dance sequence in the first episode. |
I watched the whole second season today. I've entertained a few thoughts of what ifs with one of my good male friends over the years, but this show has completely squashed that. Cheating is never a good idea. |
I liked it but it was over so quickly! |
It’s utterly unrealistic she goes from the ACLU to THE general counsel for a major hedge fund. Different practice areas. Plus there’s only one GC at the top among the legions of in house attorneys, and a hedge fund would not expose itself to unknown variables putting her on top. In that scene where she says she’s THE GC, she should have said she works for the GC. Plus even working at the ACLU, they should have at least $100k saved up. Between them, at age 40, they have 30 years of earnings. |
What is Jon’s job? In one scene he said he went to Hofstra. What field is he in? I’m guessing private equity or such by him immediately recognizing that lawyer’s employer. But man to have that kind of country house plus the current place in Manhattan, after divvying assets with his first wife. Anyone want to guess his job? |
Season 2 is much better than the first season-the writing is sharper and funnier. It doesn't feel as "over the top" as Season 1. I wish Billy Eichner had a bigger role, though-I love him.
I have an ongoing quibble with the casting in terms of the actors' ages. Colbie Smulders and the actress who plays Marianne look (and probably are) 5-10 years younger than the actress who plays Sam (who is beautiful but looks like she's in her 40's). The characters are supposed to be in their early 40's (although I think Colbie Smulders's character is supposed to be 2 or 3 years younger)-the male actors and the actress who plays Sam look that age but Colbie and the actress who plays Marianne look significantly younger. Another thing I think is odd is that the actor who plays Nick (Nat Faxon) has crooked teeth. Nick is supposed to be a trust fund baby-there is no way that someone that wealthy would have teeth like that. It's not a reflection on Nat Faxon-I think he's a good actor and that he does a great job with the part-it just doesn't make sense in terms of the character. |
This is SO distracting to me. |
+1. Loved Fred Savage. Many laugh out loud moments. Wish there were a few more episodes in the season! |
Looked it up for ratings. Ouch! On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of 24% based on 62 reviews, with an average rating of 4.78/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Even a cast of talented comedic actors can't keep Friends from College from being anything but underwhelming."[13] On Metacritic, the series has a score of 44 out of 100, based on 31 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[14]
Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly gave the first season a C? rating, writing that the series wastes the talents of its cast members.[15] Tim Dowling of The Guardian writes, "Each character may be unpleasant in his or her own right, but the sheer charmlessness of the group is hard to overstate. If they were sitting at a table near you, you’d leave the restaurant." |
Wow. I think Sam looks the oldest of the three woman. I also think Nick looks much older. But in real life people age differently. |
It's slightly entertaining but everyone is unlikable and they continue to do the dumbest things. Watching season 1s IVF was just annoying given how much they got wrong about IVF (it's not that hard to google how it works). Then season 2 and the ridiculous sonogram where the tech claimed the baby was conceived exactly 6 weeks and 1 day earlier was RIDICULOUS. Anyone that knows the slightest about ovulation and implantation might have told them to not have such a ridiculous way for her to figure out the baby was her ex's. |
The actresses playing Marianne and Sam are about the same age (44 and 43, respectively). True that Cobie Smulders is a good bit younger (36) though I think she's mature enough to carry it off. About the teeth issue. Bluebloods can be odd about cosmetic stuff. Fwiw I've met some with really bad teeth, so it doesn't strike me the same way. |
I just finished binging both seasons last night.
Sam looks older because she was a senior when Lisa was a freshman - she calls her "Froshy". I agree she looks much older, but that's at least part of an explanation. I also just don't understand why Sam and Ethan didn't just get married? I was hoping they would explain that. Only thing I can think of is that Lisa terminated a pregnancy in college maybe that's why Lisa and Ethan got married, they felt trapped together? I can actually see how Sam and Ethan have carried on this affair - I ended up marrying my college FWB but I can see how you'd never really "get over" that person (not that I condone cheating, but I get it...). John is also on Grey's Anatomy and I think he's a great actor! Also agree with Marianne - I like the character and think she has her funny moments, but she doesn't really add anything to the show. And Nick's teeth are hard to look at, I also feel bad for his character by the end of season 2. |
I'm another that find the teeth an issue. |
