Definitely not. NAAT just offers a piece of information(maybe only smaller part). The final decision may combine with CogAt test results and teachers's evaluation, etc. I know some kids go to AAP until fourth grade or even sixth grade. At least in our AAP center, I heard from the other parents that it is sort of chaotic. All kinds of kids are there, not only academic advanced ones. As long as you want to, your kids will always get in by different referral. Some kids are forced to be sent in AAP by parents. AAP is not that great as we expected. Just relax. |
What is GBRS? Thanks |
What is GBRS? Thanks I am just a little surprised. She read very well, almost finish the 2nd grade requirement of reading, so I expect a little higher but I actually don't want to push her. If she is not at the advanced level, it is totally fine. Not every child is gifted. Lol. I honestly think the result gives me some idea about how well she is. |
Thank you. I actually don't want to push her. If she is not at that level then it is better for her to not join aap. She can focus on whatever she likes, piano and art or acting lol |
Discussed with DH and now he is committed to taking DS to Chinese school every sunday. Otherwise DS will be left behind. We didn't leave China to have DS unable to support us. |
Oh FFS. ![]() You all need to chill. And get off DCUM. This is not normal. And definately not healthy. |
Troll post. |
The percentile that a raw score generates is based on your child's age in months. So two kids who get the same # correct can have very different scores if they are, say, 10 months apart. |

Her reading level isn't what I'm talking about. Once a kid can decode the words, he/she can essentially read nearly all texts. I'm talking about things your child says that makes you stop and say to yourself, "What.Did.You.Just.Say????" If you have a child like that, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. |

So I guess we just ignore the AAP Thanks anyway |
I'm not sure if I'm too relaxed as a parent by the standards of this board, or if I'm doing it right. My DD is in 1st grade and just got her scores back, and got a 120. I was barely aware she was being given this test, much less prepping her for it. I suppose it is because I went through Gen Ed in Fairfax County many years ago and, with hindsight and having a great career now, realize that AAP and getting into TJ are not requirements for success. I don't mean this to come off as holier than thou, but the idea of test prepping a 1st grader is surprising to me.
DD is smart, but she wouldn't do her homework (such as it is in 1st grade) without being forced, and getting her to remember things like bringing home her lunchbox is a coin flip. They are kids, let them be kids. Gen Ed in Fairfax is not a sentence to an unfulfilling life, it is still better than 95% or more of the education being offered around the country. Your kids will be fine regardless. |

120, not bad at all. It is ranking of superior. I personally cannot see the difference between 135 and 120 for a seven years old. |
