Question for the well traveled: Where did the food make you sickest?

I got food poisoning in Tel Aviv and a parasite in Istanbul. Was very ill on both occasions so I am 0 for 2 in the Middle East.

I've traveled all over and never been sick out of the courntry. Got food poisoning at a restaurant in Old Town and once in New Orleans. Food poisoning is food poisoning. It's terrible and you can get it anywhere.

Nicaragua.

I didn't have any problems in India. I only drank bottled water (even for brushing my teeth). I even ate street food. But I had amazing coworkers showing me the way and I trusted their judgment.

I had a friend who spent months in India and never got sick - he said the key was using hand sanitizer obssessively, including on any utensils in a restaurant, and bottled water. I did that when I visited Vietnam and managed to stay healthy while my traveling companions got sick ... Still ate a ton of fruit but it was stuff with peels/shells mostly (dragon fruit, bananas, jackfruit).

Absolutely India. Even our tour guide, who was local and who only took us to "good and safe" restaurants, got terribly ill. Our whole group of 15 was laid up for two days. It was no joke.

People should say where in India they fell sick. I specified Delhi, where even my Indian family members fall sick. It is not India bashing to acknowledge where one got food poisoning, especially if you're well traveled and know how to take basic precautions.

I saw one Mumbai post but I suspect most of these India posts are Delhi specific and that city certainly does have a satiation problem, worse than most developing country capitals. Nothing offensive in acknowledging that.

Specifically Delhi, the suburb Noida, and one spot in Agra not too far from the Taj. None of the places I ate were exploratory or happenstance.

Headline in next month's Delhi News: "The India Department of Tourism is puzzled by a sudden drop of tourists from Washington, DC. They are investigating the cause."

Picked up a parasite in Peru, however doctor suspected it was fromy white water rafting trip (I jumped off a bridge into the river when the rapids were more dull) vs the food

Not me, but my traveling companion had to be hospitalized in Moscow after severe gastric illness.

In my teens my family took a trip that included Bangladesh, Nepal and India. I was fine in all those places but got the worst food poisoning of my life in Thailand (specifically Phuket.)

Interesting idea on washing everything with sanitizer...

I lived in Africa, and the worst I got sick was here, after eating Applebee's boneless, skinless, chicken breast hot wings. Barely made it home and was sick for days! Never went there again. I used to like it before this incident.
