Question for the well traveled: Where did the food make you sickest?

Anonymous
Ethiopia. And I've lived or spend significant amounts of time in Cambodia, India, Uganda, Egypt and a lot of other developing countries. But I got giardia while doing field work in Ethiopia and it's the only time I've had to go to the hospital in a developing country. I had explosive diarrhea and vomiting for 36 hours until a neighbor checked on me and took me to the international hospital in addis. To this day, I have very limited memory of it until I woke up 2 days later in my bosses' house, being nursed by his wife.

The sickest I've ever gotten from food was in Canada.

Delhi for sure. I've managed well in other Indian cities, as well as several African capitals & rural villages, but Delhi is just filthy.
