You think it is ridiculous that women can use earned leave. You think that women should be told what day they are allowed to use their earned leave?

Um. Aren't they being told just that by whoever is calling for them not to work?

Many (most?) workers are told when they can or cannot use their earned leave? I have to ask for approval and it can be denied if other people have already requested that time off and we won't be able to maintain minimum essential coverage. My husband is further restricted by only being allowed to take off time when Congress is out of session.

PP - yes I find this march ridiculous. And yes it will be the a first world march (to quote another pp - the 10%). I also didn't believe in the march in January. It's a political process folks. The time for the march was in October. When we march against the outcome we break down what our political process is about. I hated the signs from the march which were shown on the news and that my young son had to ask what pussy meant because it was on so many signs WOMEN were carrying. And the hats were classless and rude. Yes you made your point in a rude way and you were ridiculous. I voted for Hillary. But she lost. Move on and get involved in a real way. But do it with dignity and grace. Get involved in your local government, state government - whatever. Hold Trump accountable, but don't we need to show up to do that? And closing schools? Seriously is that ever a good idea.

I think if you are lucky enough to have leave and be able to take it then you can use it how you want. And if your choice is to take March 8th off, great. I'm from Europe and we celebrate March 8 and give flowers and cards to women in our lives (moms, sisters, partners etc). I'm choosing to go to work and save my vacation days. My husband is deployed so I will be doing all childcare after work. My nanny is choosing not to take off (she could if she wanted to use a paid day). So it a business as usual in my world but I certainly support people and businesses that choose to voice their protest in this way. I personally don't think it accomplishes as much as say donating money to women candidates and others who support living wage, fair paternal leave policies.

That should read "parental" leave policies.

I think the schools that closed had little choice since they had over 300 staff members call out. So there would not be enough subs and it becomes a safety issue with not enogih adults to teach/supervise.

You people are so ridiculous. My husband is deployed. Would you have me just...wait? Not feed or clothe my children for your made up protest? Sorry, I'll be taking care of them AND going to work to make sure my customers are taken care of as well.

(This is a protest you don't actually want me involved in because I'm pro-life, I might add.)

I agree, its ridiculous and I look down on those participating. Go do your damn job like everyone else.

If they have one to return to. Remember what happened on immigrant day: many returned and found themselves without at job.

Good! There are consequences for every decision we make.

Some of us do not have spouses who "often" do the domestic grunt work.

And some of us don't have spouses at all.

Not having a spouse stops you from wearing red in March and pink in October.
