OP here. We are friendly with several of the families. Half are classmates. Half are people we hang out as families and/or do play dates regularly including our other children. I just don't want the siblings around for the activity. I don't mind if they come at 5 to hang out and eat. I don't want to make the invitation too confusing though.

Party time will be 2:30-4:30 or 3-5. I was leaning towards 3-5 and serving food at 4:30.

OP here. I am serving food. It would be dinner. I wouldn't send guests home hungry. I also don't mind families staying to eat but I don't want to write that on the invitation.

Who eats dinner at 430? On that note alone I would decline. A party from 3-5pm serving dinner at 430 is a terrible time. Make it earlier or later, it's an odd time.

Your child has never been invited to an afternoon party that bumps into dinner? My kids are in elementary school and the majority of the parties we are invited to are 2-4, 2:30-4:30 or 3-5. Most people don't do morning parties because of sports.

I plan on serving food. I serve food at all our parties. Most parties we attend are in the afternoon. My kid doesn't end tennis until 2 so I can't have the party earlier. The majority of his friends also do weekend sports and activities.
