Agreed. That movie sucked balls. |

I loved Lost in Translation, but I've traveled a lot and lived abroad, so it resonated with me.
Many of the movies listed here I avoided because I knew I wouldn't get them -- anything Tarantino, David Lynch, Benecio del Toro -- I just know i'm going to walk out wondering "What the hell was that all about?" Ditto many Coen Bros movies. I just look at the poster for "Men Who Stare at Goats" and think "No." Although I loved some of their movies. Love the Bechdel test, by the way. Should be required for every feature film. |
| Birdman |
Yeah, not sure we were supposed to "get" that one. |
Yes it was so awful and it will be around again soon as a 'holiday' movie. Ugh. |
| Eyes Wide Shut, Monster's Ball = horrible, horrible, did I say horrible? |
I liked memento! |
I believe in a couple scenes there's snow and a Christmas tree. |
My favorite movie! I didn't love it the first time I saw it in the theater but I watched again on HBO or Showtime or whatever and picked up some things I missed the first time. Now I watch it anytime I see it on, which isn't often enough. Love it! |
If you really love Christmas... "Billy Mack: But wouldn't it be great if Number One this Christmas wasn't some smug teenager, but an old ex-heroin addict searching for a comeback at any price? All those young popsters, come Christmas Day... they'll be stretched out naked with a cute bird balancing on their balls, and I'll be stuck in some dingy flat with me manager, Joe, ugliest man in the world, fucking miserable because our fucking gamble didn't pay off. So if you believe in Father Christmas, children, like your Uncle Billy does, buy my festering turd of a record. And particularly enjoy the incredible crassness of the moment when we try to squeeze an extra syllable into the fourth line. " |
DH and I loved it also! |
| As Good As It Gets, with Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear. |
| The thin red line |
Omg, Monster's Ball is one of my favorites! It's the characters more than the story. I remember when I first watched it, thinking about the ending scene with them sitting on the steps... I wanted to know more about what happened to them after. Then I read Roger Ebert's review and he essentially said the same thing. |
